Lame noob question. Photoshop?

Do I need Photoshop in order to use DAZ?

Nope, not at all. You will want some sort of image editor though.

No, there's a bridge plug-in for Daz Studio to send/receive images from Photoshop but it's there as a convenience - you can achieve the same results by saving images from DS and using the Surfaces pane to load images created in an image editor (should you wish to) using the standard commands, it just takes two steps instead of one. The same goes for the ZBrush bridge (GoZ) which is just a quick way to do something that can be done with a few extra clicks through other applications.

An image editor is useful but you don't need one to use Daz Studio.

I use Daz Studio and I haven''t got Photoshop. I mostly use Paintshop Pro for image editing but I am starting to use Gimp.
