New monitor

I need to replace my computer monitor. Is it better to use a flat monitor or a curved monitor?    The size is 27 inch   any thoughts

A curved monitor would reduce eyestrain a tiny bit during long sessions but I think 27" is small enough where it's not worth the extra cost.

If you were going for one of the 34" widescreens or a big TV (as a monitor) then curved would be worth considering.

  • Thanks... I went with the straight 27".... Others in a different group felt thatthe curved monitors tended to distort the figures slightly and were basically better for gaming....

  • For display of images, curved screens are a useless gimmick. It's compensating in hardware for something that is already fully compensated in wetware.

For computer interface display, it may help reduce eyestrain if and only if your head is near the center of curvature, by letting you look at different parts of the screen without adjusting the focal distance of your eyeballs.
