One long nosed kid from me.

Apparently Pinocchio is a Fictional Character.

Not sure if anyone told him. Not even sure if he cares.

Carrara job, working with a few different render passes and photodonut

you use the render passes to isolate eg the clothes so you can make them more painterly than the face and hands etc

    Thanks Headwax,

I appreciate the explanation of render passes explained when using Carrara. I really got me thinking about my approach as well. Your work looks very organic.

Made some larger adjustments to show character depth and to rely less on outlines.

Last adjustments for the day. I was really pushing hard to get a scheme that is more compliant across unity, daz rendering and photo editing.

Applied some additional tweaks and test multiple poses, size and transparencies.

Added more depth and shading to move away from the flat style characters I had before. I find it makes the characters far more interesting to look at. Although I still have an appreciation for flat color characters... I think this suits the feelings i would like express in storytelling.

depth makes a big difference - i've just been adding two layers of an image of a charecter, making one screen parameter, one multiply

bottom layer is the original - then I erase layers to reveal a bit of roundness by shading

Another great image, of course (not sure if the shadow on his right foot (our left) is working perfectly, though – he looks a little floaty).

BTW: I have a co-worker who is developing a children's book and doing some artwork for it. So I showed her some of my work, but also yours and she was BLOWN AWAY. She thought it completely looked like a classic watercolor illustration from a children's book. She had no idea that 3D art could do anything like this.

I really love the cool effect you are achieving here. Would you mind sharing one of the Carrara renders so I can see where you started? I'd like to figure out how much of this is render and how much is postwork.

BTW: Is this the Daz House Mouse?

hey thanks !! :) you have eagle on eyes, nice spotting that shadow ! thanks for passing on that kind compliment - I was a watercolourist for many years - but it made me too anal ! now I paint in acrylic - fauvist or impressionistic - reduction to simple elements being the aim - makes a nice contrast to highly detailed digital

here's a couple - you might need to right click on them >open in new tab  :) the second one was bought by an old painting teacher - I was honoured

Here's one worked up @mmitchell_houston  and the precursor without post at the bottom. I used about 5ive different types of render passes from carrara dand worked on them separately then combined them, Not sure if the beauty pass contributed at all in the end

There's also the King of The Mice without post - It's noggins rat added to genesis - the hair is Carrara - the rat head is slightly morphed - the daz mouse doent have a working mouth from memory - but he appears in the first post of the carrara NPR thread.

I was trying to get a pencil effect with the Kind and the dancing rats buit could have gone the colour way. Photodonut and PS elements are the main weapons. I'd highly recommend spending a month with Photodonut.... There's hidden gems amongst the chaff

More silliness for my comic project.

Yes I realize its not a real Luchador mask, but I'm working with what I've got.

When he was a small boy, his life was changed forever when his parents were mildly inconvenienced by Ninjas. Since then he has vowed to punch every crime commiting ninja he comes across!

But his beef is only with ninjas...if your getting purse-snatched by some guy in a ski mask, you're just gonna have to shout for Batman or something.

Okay, the premise and the text are very funny. The character design is very simple and I do get what you're saying about the mask. It does need work. I like the general look of the art, but the shading on the clothing doesn't have the same softness or depth as does his chest. I always say if you're going to show a shirtless figure then commit to it and go with faint nipples and a navel. Of course, that's just my preference in art. Archie Comics certainly doesn't do that, so there's nothing at all wrong with not showing them.

The one thing I would suggest you do really is to fix his shorts. Frankly, those are cut for a girl not a teenaged boy. There's just not enough room down there for his... uh... "boys." And it's not flattering on him. I would definitely say to find more of a superman cut to the shorts, and seriously consider adding a belt to give him a little definition at the waist.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Hope to see more of this amusing character soon.

Thanks. I'm starting to hestitate posting stuff here. Some people get all hyper critical, and this is just something I do for fun.

Nah, don't stop posting. It's constructive critique, take it or leave it, but don't take it personally.  Everyone here means well.

I love the neon yellow outlines. It's definitely appears to be a piece that I would hang on a wall. An interesting observation is at the left corner of the couch, the outline appears to react to the lighting casted on it.

I understand how that can feel depending on your motive for posting (fun, contract work, self improvement ...). The feedback from mmitchell_houston was certainly excellent feedback "depending" on how you plan to portray your character. Everyone is definitely not here for the same reasons so it can be hard to tell what kind of response someone may need. I'm on this thread very often but I havent shared everytime. I'm sure like myself, many people enjoy the variety of shared work.

Keep sharing and know that just because you may not get the response you are looking for there are always others that will like your post but may not respond.

    Thanks for sharing vrba79

It wouldn't feel so biting if the critcisms were universal. It seems more focused on some members than others.

I think a lot of us on this thread love to give and receive constructive crit, but I can understand that there are those who are not looking for crit.  An idea I have given to some who would rather not receive crit is to simply state something to the effect - no crit requested, or something like that.  I always enjoy your renders btw.

I hope you don't stop posting. Your stuff makes me smile and puts me in a good mood! :) I'm being selfish, I know. lol So if you feel it's best not to post, that's of course, completely valid. :) Only you know what's best for you. If you don't feel comfortable sharing then, of course, you should only do what you're comfortable with. :) I enjoy the humour and whimsy of your renders and concepts, but I know that you should just do what you're most comfortable with. Since this is all for fun. smiley
