Missing Genesis starter essentials assets (.dsf)

I installed Genesis starter essentials to this directory: C:\Users\Joseph\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library, but I get this when I try to use it:

Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected. The following files could not be found:

/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf

/data/DAZ 3D/Aldora Hair/Aldora for Genesis/Aldora for Genesis.dsf

etc.

The new Genesis Starter files are in DUF format and only work in DS4.5 and above. If your using DS4.0 they can not be read by that version. Or if you Up graded and kept your old settings it will look for the dsf file as that is in your configuration files. I need to know which to help you solve this problem.

Thank you Jaderail for your reply. I download the latest DS 4.6 few days ago and installed yesterday. After that I installed the Genesis Essentials. Both of these are my first and only install.

How did you install the Starter Pack and to which folder?

Where did you install Genesis Starter Essentilas to?

Did you use the DAZ Install Manager (DIM)? If so, DIM installs by default into a different location, called My DAZ 3D Library, is that whre your content was installed to?

It looks like your data folder cannot be found, and that means that the content folders are not set up correctly in the Content Directory Manager, can you look in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, and see what folders are set up for both DAZ Studio AND Poser Formats. Can you post a screenshot of the expanded listings?

@JimmyC_2009, I stayed away from DIM and unzipped directly to : C:\Users\Joseph\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

Could you go to the Folder on the PC not in DS and open it and take a snap of that?

Also to post a image you go to the Choose File button right above Preview Post and Submit and Browse to the file.

Okay, just as I thought. You did what 99.9% would have. But you did not know all DIM zips have a Content folder. Do this Select every folder in Content and then drop it to the My Library folder. That should leave the content folder empty. Then Boot DS. Your content should now load. the Empty Content folder can be deleted.

EDIT: For future hand installs I suggest you Unzip to a temp folder Open the Content Folder do a Select all and then PASTE with a Merge to the My Library folder. That will work 100% for you.

I have much the same problem. I upgraded to DAZ 4.6 recently. Today I tried to use a Genesis character and was told the Genesis.dsf file was not found. I know I didn't delete it, and after searching for the file and not finding it means that DAZ deleted the file sometime during it's install! I really hate programs that delete files without asking, especially if they're not being replaced with a newer version. I downloaded the Genesis Essentials, but cannot use any of the Genesis characters I had. DAZ also told me that I should use an empty folder instead of where I was keeping DAZ Content. Does this mean I now have to re-download and re-install all Genesis products? This seems like a bad idea. Any upgraded program shouldn't need to add these kind of problems to the user. As a programmer myself I always make sure my programs are backward compatible. And what is the point of saving a Scene? I worked for a couple of hours on some figures, using morphs, and saved the scene so I could continue to work on it later. When I reloaded the scene all morphs were gone! So again I ask: why save a scene if it doesn't save everything in it?

In DS4.0, the default content was included in the same installer as the application. Starting with DS4.5 they were split into 2. Genesis Starter Essentials is the included content. Old scenes will still work once you install Genesis Starter Essentials. You can install it to the same location you used before, or to a new location; as long as DS knows all the locations, everything should still work.

Scene files do not contain everything or they would be huge.

This is what I get after reinstalling Troll, and loading the character. What has the character got to do with a flirtingMorph or expressions? It shows both L and R but not what the file is that has the duplicate formula, which I assume is Troll.dsf. The character does load but why the error? V5 is also Genesis? I can't load her either. I won't try reinstalling until I get the Troll problem fixed.

Is it showing as blocks, or is it not showing anything? If the latter, go to Edit > Preferences > Startup and make sure the Startup scene is set to Genesis.duf rather than Genesis.dsf. If the former, how did you install Genesis Starter Essentials (DIM, installer, or manually extracting zip)?

So... I'm brand spanking new at this, as well.

I downloaded DAZ Studio 4.7 Pro and the Genesis Starter Essentials; I installed using DIM, because, Luddite that I am, I have no idea how else to do it.

When I select Fiery Genesis from the Smart Content tab, I get the following message:

Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected.
The following files could not be found:

    1) Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks!

First, make sure you installed "Genesis Starter Essentials" -- there is also a "Genesis 2 Male Starter Essentials" and a "Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials".

Second, did you ever have an earlier version of DS4 installed?

What those messages are saying is that DAZ Studio couldn't find the data files for the items it is trying to load. It could be because they weren't installed, or because they aren't in the place DAZ Studio is looking for them.

  • edited February 2015

I actually have both. I installed both using DIM, and the path that DAZ uses under Preferences is C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library

The path is the same for both DAZ and Poser, if that makes any difference.

Oh- and I have never had DAZ before, on this or any other computer. Toldja I was new... :)

If you use Windows Explorer. does C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Genesis.dsf exist?

  • edited December 1969

Well, copying that link into my search bar, I don't see it.

When I do a search for Genesis.dsf, I get a whole bunch of Genesis 2 files, including zip files for Male and Female... and I get a zip file for GenesisStarterEssentials which is located in C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads

It sounds like you installed "Genesis 2 Male Starter Essentials" and "Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials", but not "Genesis Starter Essentials".

  • edited December 1969

Okay... I told it to download and install, but apparently DIM thinks I was just joking. Is there a way to manually install it?

Is it not installing, or did the download fail? It's a large file, so have DIM try it again.
