Why does Hexagon BETA still crash when using displacement brush?

i recently did a complete system overhaul. New hardware, fresh, pristine install of Win 10, very latest Daz Studio 2.10 and of course the exciting new Hexagon 2.5 BETA that got recently released.

Sadly, I still find out that for unexplained reasons, using the displacement brush on an imported OBJ or "send to hexagon"-bridged G3 or G8 causes an application freeze.

i used to have this issue for years but assumed this is just Hexagon being old and unsupported. When I read that Daz had worked on it to stabilize it and probably fix some 64-bit addressing stuff, this bug would go away.

Alas, no such luck.

is this a known issue? What can I do to resolve? If blender wasn't such a steep learning curve... sigh.

  • Well, it's a beta...... have you reported the bug to DAZ ? otherwise there is not much chance that it will be fixed.

The beta is 32-bit, although it has been made large address aware (LAA), which means it can use up to 4gb of available memory ( Without LAA, it was limited to 2gb). In my experience the crashing lessened quite a bit with LAA. It appears to me that working with objects over 1 million polys is prone to crashing in general. Turning off Dynamic Geometry and reducing Undos (in Prefs) can help decrease the crashes.
