    HI linvanchene :)

This is just my personal opinion, but I think it's also the way many people will be working with gen4 or earlier clothing and genesis.
especially if they're not familiar yet with using DS, or have never tried to convert clothing manually..(new to 3D or new to DS) ..

Autofit. (I think it also helps to have the genesis shapes for your gen4 and gen3 figures)
Load the clothing and let Autofit do what it does,,

As you say,. when Autofit was first released it had fewer options, and was likely to have issues after the conversion,.. but the Daz Developers have been working on it,. and, for example,. in Carrara 8.5 (beta version), which is where I'm happiest, I simply load the clothing, and let auto-fit do it's thing.

I think that Autofit still needs some more options for different clothing items, but generally, it's working pretty well in Daz Studio and in Carrara 8.5 beta for me.

I think there will always be issues when you're forcing a square peg into a round hole,.
Sometimes, for some specific items, it may be better to manually convert, but i'd try autofit first.

    :)

I'll second that. I always try autofit first and for most things it will work how you would expect especially once you add a smoothing modifier and adjust the settings.

The most I've normally had to do is to tidy the mesh in hex and create a morph for it normally with skirts.

The problems tend to arise when you have clothing that contains long extended bits. For example extra long sleeves. My understanding is that a lot of thes problems are caused by weightmapping translating badly. For example the sleeves if extra long get mapped to the fingers. There is a really good explanation of this in Blondie's second tutorial on rigging.

Autofit *still* doesn't always work right...case in point: LaraV4 from 4blueeyes' b2basics line...

Are there any tutorials on how to convert things manually? (even Sickleyield's SRMS tool with its transfer utility doesn't convert LaraV4 properly)

Or am I just doing something wrong? I was following the directions in the SRMS manual to the letter...

Do you have a link to the item? I'm not sure that I have that one to try.
