Oh Dear~ Installing content without IM

Newb here..again. :)
Seeing as how last night I was helped by a wonderful member I am back again and perhaps I can get some more help. I'm rather..terrible at computering and I adore the DIM, however my friend who has been using Daz for a while now linked me to some places where I can get some free content. Free content is nice, however, it doesn't use the DIM. I have tried following the steps in the guide I found here for installing this content, and well I have no problem merging the extracted runtime folder, I have nothing showing up when I open Daz. I'm not sure if I missed a step somewhere, or if perhaps Daz 4.6 is different then just the Daz 4 install instructions I saw in the tutorial.

Thanks again, Tal.

Content which does not have metadata will not appear in the Smart Content tab, but will appear in the Content Library tab under "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" (most of it will be in Poser Formats).

Well and that would make sense..except I've checked all of those folders. Including the one that is just products and has everything in alphabetical order. Strangely enough that is wear I found all the missing bits I used the DIM to download...sadly no such luck with these bits of content I DL'd myself.

They won't show up under Products, that again requires metadata or installation with DIM. Items that show up in the zip as Runtime:Libraries:Character will show in the Content Library as Poser Formats:My DAZ 3D Library:Figures (assuming your content folder is named My DAZ 3D Library).

    It is named that. XD

I'm far from computer literate enough to change little things like that. -there in lye's my issue with not using the DIM- but that aside, I have checked that folder. Poser Formats; My Daz 3d Library:figures-and every other folder- as well as the ones from Poser formats;my library -and then I just went through and checked every single folder. Nothin'.

Which is why I think I likely messed something up somewhere between extracting and pasting it into my daz runtime folder. -This is where I'm a little hazy- the 'tutorial' I read says I should look for the 'My library' and then the runtime folder..I don't have a 'my library' aside from my library which sends me to my documents and then over to Daz.. IE;; Librarys-Doc-Daz 3d<---this is where my runtime folder is, which I think is the one I want, the tutorial wasn't very clear. >..< either way that is the folder I merged the runtime folders from the dl content with. So as long as all that is right, well..then at least I did it right. N' if it's wrong, then I know where my problem is. :3

Documents:DAZ 3D:Studio:My Library is the default for DS, Public Documents:My DAZ 3D Library is the default for DIM -- as long as it's listed in DS as both DAZ Studio Format and Poser Format, you can use either. What's the exact path inside the zip to one of the items (including the filename and extension)?

I have no idea what Ds is. >...>

    The filename is- MMboots-01forv4va
At least I think that's it.

I'm a little confused by what you said..does this mean when I paste the dl content into the folder I want to go doc;daz 3d;studio;my library and then paste it into that runtime folder?

annd yes yes it does..well then, so I just had the wrong file path. Sometimes I regret taking all those fashion design and food courses instead of a computer one in high school. >.<</p>

Kiddo, hold on. I'll do a screenshot of how to set up a folder for your "outside vendors." You still online?

    Go to directory C>Users>(Your NAME)>My Documents>DAZ3d>Studio>My Library.
RIGHT click on My Library > Create A New Folder
I'll do renderosity. I'll name it 3rdPartyRenderosity See First Photo

Am I on the right track here? I haven't used any of my 3rd party stuff yet.

NOPE! You install third party content just like you install a DIM zip file by hand. Each part goes in the same part of the My DAZ 3D Library.

    So Runtime>Textures>Blah-item>Blah.jpgs
still go in your DS Runtime folder in textures.
If it's A genesis Compatible item and has folders like
    People>Genesis>Blah-item>Blah-Item.duf
    Presets>Characters>Blah-item>Blah-item_Mat.duf
they still go in your DS People Folder and Preset folder.

You can not have a Content folder nested inside another.

Well, you're not gonna wanna stick with me when you see this mess, lol. The character is a V4 character called Dublin. Here's what it looks like (with just the content folder nestled, as you said, where it shouldn't be. Now exactly what do I do with what please? (at your leisure.) The screenshots will show you what's in each folder. I'm SO non technical that it isnt funny.

The risk with having nested folders selected is that when DS writes a scene or preset it saves only the relative path - it stores the location within your content directory, but not the location of the content directory. That's why the same scene sceens or presets wil work on multiple machines with different content directory locations. If you have My Library and My Library\3rdPartyRendersity\DanaeMetropolitn\DublinV4 selected then when saving DS may write the path to the textures as \3rdPartyRendersity\DanaeMetropolitn\DublinV4\Runtime\Textures\Danae\Danae_DublinV4 instead of just Runtime\Textures\Danae\Danae_DublinV4, which will stop the sceen from opening without errors on a different machine (or your machine after a reisntall, if there's a slight variation in the folder names).
