G8 female error on loading.

When trying to load the Genesis 8 base female, I get an error message saying "Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected. Files from the following products where [sic] missing:" The message box immediately following is blank.

The next line reads: "The following files could not be found:" The message box says "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf."

The trouble is, when I navigate to that folder, Genesis8Female.dsf is there.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the G8 figure through DIM and got the same messages. "Smart Content" doesn't give me the option to uninstall it for some reason.

The figure was originally installed through DIM. I see no updates or pending downloads through "Smart Content" (a misnomer if ever there was one) but I noticed something interesting. When I right click on G8, it directs me to C:\Users\TheBrig\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_42071\people\genesis 8 female, but the missing file error message points to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female," even after reinstallation and rebuilding the content database.

What's going on?

Have you downloaded one of the hindudreams characters from Renderosity free stuff or ShareCG? I've discovered that their character Anaya for G3 and G8 produces that error. It looks like they've got a path error somewhere in the character. Because Genesis 3/8 load every morph available for the character when it's loaded into scene, even when they're not active, that error gets produced.

I had to uninstall Anaya to get rid of the error.

The file actually does exist -- I've no idea why, and I suspect it's a packing error, since Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 don't refer to each other that way. But they've coded an error into the path in their morph files (and a slightly recursive path on top of that), so whichever part of their character is looking for that file can't find it. Moving the file probably wouldn't fix the issue,m since there's an actual error; you'd need to build an entirely new path, and THAT might cause issues.

  • I can't find anything by that vendor, and there's no trace of Anaya. Still, I could always go back and check my purchases to see if there are any figures or morphs that apply to both G3 and G8.  Thanks for the hint!

  • Frag it, that didn't work. I even got rid of any Renderosity or CGBytes purchases, too.

Could it be that Studio is just trying to remind me who's boss?

Did you try uninstalling your Genesis figure essentials package through dim and then re-installing?

Yes. I uninstalled both the G3 and G8 packages. Something was making the G8 call for the G3, so I figured it best to do both, and I even deleted both for a cleaner reinstallation. Should I delete all the Genesis essentials?

Edit: okay, forget about that. Using DIM, I  uninstalled and deleted Genesis, G2, G3, and G8, then Studio itself.  Problem persists.  I should spray for gremlins.  I think I have gremlins.

The Brig... look closely at the directory in the error, "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf"  Its looking for a Genesis8Female.dsf, in the "Genesis 3/Female" directory. I guarantee its not there.

A word to the wise... set up a directory to test products as you get them.  I have a "C:\Daz 3D\Test Library" which I bring in anything I buy or freebees I download.  I test every single product (load/apply various components, test materials, do some poses) before I copy the Test Library to My Library, "D:\Daz 3D\My Library". Many products are buggy when they first come out. Daz doesn't check before passing them to you. I find glitches often enough that I'm paranoid, and some stuff I buy stays in test for a while.

Freebees are great, but... some are downright f*cked up.  There are other errors in that character set you're using, namely many of textures are in the wrong place.  Also a simple hack (I don't recommend this) is to copy the "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf" to "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/".

The correct solution is keep the offending files out of your collection, and ask the creator to fix them.

Wrangler... Thanks.. this was it.  Technically you could copy the G8F dsf to the G3F directory and it would work, but meh... I dont hack that way.

I know it's not there. When I first saw the error message I knew something was wrong because the G3 and G8 are totally different beasts.  Just for fun I even tried to copy the G8 .dsf to the target directory.  Wanna take a wild guess what happened?  (You don't need the first two.)

That's right: the error message persisted!  So I deleted the G8 .dsf and went on about my rat killing.  Funny thing, though, even though I get the error message, the G8 figure doesn't show any other signs of misbehaving.  By now this is just a pain in the butt, but I'd still like to know what caused this in the absence of the Anaya files that vwrangler mentioned because I want to make sure it doesn't happen again and that I don't somehow spread it about.

Just found this thread while searching on the exact same error. I was wondering if anyone might have found a working "correct" solution to this/

    Thanks everyone.

Have you tried looking through the log file to see what its trying to load before you get the error.  It might just point you towards a particular figure/morph thats the main cause of the error

    Simple solution worked for me - COPY Genesis8Female.dsf from "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/" into "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/"

THANK YOU! That solution worked for me... Again. This is the second time this has happened and I couldn't remember the solution until I Googled it and found this thread.

I wonder why that file keeps disappearing.
