Problems with: Alternative Piercing Pack for Genesis 8 Female

Product: https://www.daz3d.com/alternative-piercing-pack-for-genesis-8-female

Hey there,

somehow I can't add shaders/materials to the piercing-props after I've added them to my genesis8 model.... Also there isn't a tab for it at the surface-tab to add the materials manually.

I've installed this product via install-manager so it must be installed correctly I think.

Someone has any idea?

Many thanks in advance.

  • You probably need to select the items first, by default the Surfaces pane won't show them unless they are selected.

I've selected them and I'm able to change diffuse color, but there isn't the tab to choose materials.....

I see everything in the expected places. See the screenshots. There aren't any shaders with this pack, only materials. They are available as expected G8F>Accesories>Alt.....P>Mats. Note the mispelling (Accesories).

I've never scene a "tab to choose materials" in the surfaces tab. To apply a shader you need to pick the material zone (in this case either gem or metal) then go to the ShaderPresets in the Content Library and pick the shader you want.

What exactly do you mean by "tab to choose materials"? If you can change the diffuse colour, then by definition you're working in the Surfaces tab, which lets you adjust materials settings.

Hold on, I think I see what you're missing. Look at the left edge of the parameter line where you're changing the colour, there should be a small square button with a down-pointing arrowhead. Click on that, and you'll get a menu for the selection functions.

Thank you for your answer. Somehow it looks like this after I've took the shader like you told....

These are Materials, NOT Shaders. To apply the material, select the item in the normal viewport, then double click the the material that you want. You shouldn't be in the surfaces tab at all.

The materials seem to occasionally "glitchy" in that sometimes they need a second double click to apply. Here is a partial render and the associated viewport view.

Seems that I am somehow really stupid. I've tried to select the Ear stud Left-01 and no amount of clicking the gem Mat AP Garnet (or any of the others) will apply it to the stud. I have looked in the Shader Library and there simply isn't anything gem or metal in there. Can someone please help!

OK, even though the previous post doesn't show up yet. And I don't expect it to in the future because even though I'm logged NEVER has a post that I put up EVER shown up in ANY forum. Apparently I'm hated by the gods that OK our posts. BUT if it did show up even if the actual material is there in the library, it always shows up like the diamond. I found that I could get what I wanted for color and so on by selecting the specific piece of jewelry and then going into surfaces and expanding all the drop down areas, I could go into reflection and or others and set up the colors of gems. I imagine I'll be able to do the same for the metals.

Oh how wrong I was, the stud AND the gem go to the same color. No amount of setting the stud's color and so on will allow the applied gem to remain a different color. <sigh> apparently I complete wasted that money.

You have 3 posts showing up in this thread,  and also another thread which you started yourself here   https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/231051/alternative-piercing-pack#latest
Would you like me to merge that one into this thread.

Opps, it shows the color I select for the gem and pink for the metal, but in redering it reverts to metal and diamond. I HATE this.

  • It doesn't seem to work, but you can manually set the color by changing the base color and the glossy color.
