OK, that was quick, and I did setup the render and render on my machine at home via remote desktop (DS is a little funky over slow internet connections).

Kattey: Thanks! Yeah, I like westerns alot, just the "wide open spaces" thing can be difficult to capture without crashing my computer. I was using the Multiplane Cyclorama for this one.

Cuisle: thanks for the kind words and the cool image!

Cuisle, I really like the details and idea here, thank you for the render!

Odaa, oh, I understand this completely, have same computer-crashing fears myself.

Thanks Cuisle for the comment. That is a beautiful case lining.

Cuisle: Missed your comments (downside of surfing on the phone from time to time). Thanks for the comments, I hope I didn't place your coffee on your screen ;-)

Kattey, thanks, and thanks, Zawarkal! That's actually the lining that came with the coffin, the one Kattey linked to on ShareCG, by wtfftw, really nicely textured.

You did a great job lighting it and the rest of the image-it gives the pic a very tactile quality, with the case lining and all that polished wood and the violinist's gnarly hands.

Great contest idea, and nice work everyone! This idea just popped into my head today...kind of an homage to two classic sci-fi movies. Rendered in DAZ Studio 4.5, no postwork.

This is such a cool contest idea! Everyone has come up with some really clever uses for their coffins!

    "Flower Box"
I had this kind of silly story in my head about an old witch who has a beautiful coffin made and then discovers an immortality potion; since she won't be needing it anymore she puts the coffin outside of her cottage and plants magic flowers in it :)

I didn't think I would find the time for this, and you can't see the coffin very well I should have rendered from a different angled.

This is just a note that time for contest submissions is over (but you can still post your renders as a part of challenge) :)
The results will most probably be tomorrow

Again, thank you all very much for participation :)

    ...here's one for Wendy

    Okay. Contest over. :cool smile:

Seriously, this is what my cat has been begging for, only I was too stupid to understand her.

    Odaa, thank you!

Scott-Livingston, what a cool idea to combine homages to those two iconic scenes. The light coming out of the coffin is a great touch.

    MeganNoel, that's beautiful. :)

scorpio64dragon, neat concept, and I love the tonality of the render.

Totte, lovely. Smallifying the trees makes them look so lush.

So, let me conclude this contest with PRIZES! :)

It was not easy to judge and I'm sorry I can't gift all participants with small prize, because I really liked all renders. But I feel that the most unusual use for coffin was Sean Riesch's picture, as I never saw before a crazy machine like “Crazy Igor’s coffitron”
so Sean Riesch gets the first place ($15) :D

Two runners up are Cuisle with An Old Love Revived and Sockratease's "Here’s one for Wendy" ($7 each). Winners, please contact me with a name of the site (DAZ3D, Renderosity or RDNA) where you'd like your prize :)

I hope that this small contest was as fun for you as it was for me (and it was a lot of fun for me!).
Thank you all very much for your submissions and enthusiasm :) (and again my apologies that I don't have presents for everybody)

    Wow!

    I ran up :ahhh:

Congrats to Sean Riesch, Cuisle, (and even me), and thanks to Kattey for a fun contest.

The Cows had computer problems, and were too busy installing software and content to finish their entry in time. They were using it as a water trough, but the water wasn't coming out well - so they filled it with hay... but that wasn't looking right either. The computer died while trying dynamic hair for the hay.

    Sort of appropriate.

It's funny that the "quickie" idea did so well, and the one I wanted to make never materialized.

I'll send that PM off and will finally have enough to get something from the store!

Thanks again to Kattey and congrats again to the winners.
