Okay, what I wanted to do is show you a new release, plus a gal from one of the featured stores, so the showcase would be timely. (And I'm doing about 4 others things while these are rendering. Ultra busy.) First of all, I had Neive for Genevieve 7 wishlisted, and she's in one of the featured stores for the Jepe day page If you get a new release she drops to 58%. So I picked up Hinky's Hair Salon Shaders to generate the 58% discount on her. She actually went 66% off because I used my $18 spending PC+ code, and that $6 off was split between Neive,($6.46 after coupon) and (also from the featured stores) Lucas (G3M) ($5.44 after coupon), and HP Penny (Gen8F) ($6.12) So all those did the 66%.
I tested several aspects fo the HHSS (hair salon shaders) on several hairs, with one light (#14) from Pro-Studio. If I get time, I'll try another light. However, first observation- the shaders do add time to the render, so these aren't cranked out like I can normally do. And it depends on the hair. For these shaders, I think you'll really (REALLY) have to watch the top lit presets, and lower your Tone Mapping Burn Highlights down (anywhere from .10 to .15, possibly even lower if you're dealing with a blonde.)
So let's take a peek at three of the HHSS shaders on Neive, who I really like. (I like the blemish by/semi-on her lip, and the brows are different.)
I'm not sure about mixing different shaders, didn't try that. This is just the clickable presets out of the box.
First, Flashy Hair, which IMO doesn't work that great with these shaders. I tried volume and a few other things, but I think unless you want a cartoon look or fanatasy look, Flashy Hair wouldn't be a first pick for realistic looking hair.
Flashy Hair, original. I did up the Smoothing from 2 to 7.
Flashy Hair, Soft 91
Flashy Hair Glitter, White
Flashy Hair, Fairy 06
Next up, Colony Hair.
Colony Hair (Gen3F)
The Original. The lights are giving the different color at the top of the head. Smoothing was increased from 2 to 4 for all of these.
Next, Soft 91, the same as for Flashy Hair.
Glitter, White
Fairy Hair 06
Adalyn Hair (Gen3F)
BTW, that is also the hair in this main promo of Fantasy IBL Beach Bundle product.
Here's the original hair, with smoothing of 4.
Next Soft 91
Glitter, White
In progress. I'm doing this 800 x 900 pixels, and these shaders do slow down renders. One that takes me normally 15 minutes is taking 25-45 minutes.
Fairy Hair 06
This is only 58% and it still took half an hour. But Fairy looks SO good on this hair!
I did test renders using Hinky's Hair Salon shaders as well, on Savage Braid, on model Alina. I hope it isn't too repetative to post them here. I didn't use special lighting or settings. Because they did take longer to render, I let the renders run to 30 %. Here are the shader presets in the order i applied them. No shader, soft 66, glitter 16, bubble gum pink tips, soft 87, shiny 15. Glitter 16 is my fave of the ones I tried. Sometimes white or platinum hair shaders come out flat, but I think the glitter gives these colors some oomph.
I tried the skin settings/tweaks you suggested. The first one is of Jett with default settings, the second is with added metallicity. I think the second version is better, though maybe I could add just a little more shine. My sister said she could see no difference and that I'm obsessing over skin. I just blamed you, lol
BTW I used EJ bodyshaper on the character. The presets were easy. I believe there should be some sliders as well, but I didn't find them at the time of render. I also didn't have a lot f time to look for them.
Oh no, not repetitive at all. Glad to have the extra pair of eyes. Question- can more than one of these be applied simultaneously? I didn't try that.
I don’t know for sure as I didn’t think to try to layer the shading. However when I accidentally clicked a diff color (instead of undoing the last shader to apply a new one), the entire hair color appeared to change in the viewport. I didn’t render it though so I can’t be sure.
@worldsedge BTW, I can definitely see a difference in the skin, but agree it could use a bit more shine. I see it most in that tiny crescent almost on the outer edge of the shoulder on the right (as we look at it) and the bigger crescent coming toward the chest. There's several other places, but that caught my eye right away. And what a man to experiment on! You did a really nice job with him. So, WHERE does he work?
Okay, I got the rest of the hair shaders done, scroll back up. My observation is you need to allow ten to twenty minutes or more on top of what you normally take to render hair. Half an hour and 50-60% on my fast computer was standard for these.
Be sure and check your Exclusive messages for the discount on Karyssa. 25% if you have other elvish / spritely type Pro Bundles. Also, if you haven't used your DO coupon for the PC+, you can get an additional $6 off (or have it spread out among all the DOs.) I'd rather have less pose packs and more hair or clothes, but that's because I can't make hair or clothes LOL. If you render her, would love to see her. I have to go do other things (Life), doing that hair took longer than I wanted.
Catching up, you all have been busy! I picked up Hinky's new shaders yesterday and used them in a promo. Should go live tomorrow, then will post. I bought that Periwinkle Plumwind too. She's got interesting skin. Will do a render soon.
Here's one I did over the weekend for Bad Kitteh's new Vinnuth Kriegor Armor. What a cool set! DarwinsMishap's Giovanni looks very good in it while he hunts crystal dragons.
Ah, hot men and dragons. They just go together!
Note: This armor fits G8F pretty well. We had a couple of artists at Sympatico do promos with it on women. You can see them in the album here.
I agree with Llynara that armor works very well on both G8F and G8M - its not just for orcs although it does look fabulous on them as well lol. Has a TON (of pieces and texture options, you can hide parts, its very versatile and very well made. You could outfit a whole horde and not make the same armor twice.
HP Penny for Genesis 8 Female Voss Hair (Gen3 / 8 Females) Goth Outfit (Gen8F)
I chose Voss Hair because it has some awesome colors. The red and black go nicely with her different makeups.
That's a great render, Llynara-thank you for using Gio in it!
Haven't looked at Penny-interesting character, may have to go check her out.
Artistic Make-Up Concepts (Gen3) is in Fast Grab. Budo-San has a fun render in the gallery. Look at the lips. I think this product would be great for costume party renders.
Has anyone tried this on Gen8 characters..just wondering if it would work on them as it looks very interesting
@kharma Good question. I looked through the gallery images linked on the product page (using the daz app) just in case one of them might be a Genesis 8, but they were all Genesis 3's. I don't own this (yet) so haven't played with it.
They use the base female UVs, so they'll work on G8F.
Uh, I'm cleaning the walls and getting ready to paint the Room of Doom now that it actually has a floor so I can turn it into my computer room. LOL
You're welcome!
HP Penny has some interesting makeups. Hinky always does a great job on those. I used Penny recently with Giuseppe a while back in a promo for Bad Kitteh's Bad Clown Outfit.
Gianni 7 Starter Bundle is in Fast Grab, 70% off. Two outfits, one hair, one pose set, one character for him, Gianni, so 6 things for $26.99 is $4.49 per item. I don't know if he's been offered for free or greatly discounted in other offers, but this is the lowest price on the chart in awhile (which was also offered November 13th)
Okay, you know why you surf this thread. C'mon, you do. It's for the adorable animal videos.
I wish that men's chippendale tie and collar set had a larger bow tie. It looks disproportionately small. One of the reasons I haven't touched it, is that is so small. Does it have any size adjustments?
Do you mean this one?
I have it, but I haven't tried it. However, I was using the Classic Tuxedo recently, and it does have a size morph. If nothing else, perhaps you can switch out the included tie for the tie from the tuxedo.
I will have to try it. Yes, it needs to be bigger. =-)
I'm not sure about the starter bundle; but the pro bundle has been as low as $28.33 on 17 Dec 2017.
B-b-but ... size doesn't matter!
Well in this case it is a bit unrecognizable as what it’s supposed to be so small....
Ouch! lol
It's cold, ok?
Hrm. If you own the Bunny Girl set which was on sale around Christmas, the bowtie included makes a perfect substitute and its the right soze. Parenting it effectively is a bit of an issue though... Tough for things parented in the neck region to stay in Vegas so to speak.
