MFD and Cloak compatability

I mostly use Gen2 right now, but that's because i'm new (less than a month old) and those figures seem the simplest to start with. I bought the MFD for Gen2. Then the big sale came on, and I returned the MFD2 in favor of the bundle with all the expansions for G8. I am a bit overwhealmed with the controls on the MFD, and thus I'm unsure whether it's not compatable with G2 (in other words i need to buy the MFD2 and expansions for gen 2... preferably now while the catagory is on sale) or whether the gen 8 bundle should address my needs. I am running into the same question with other outfits that I'm not realizeing are the same thing, just for different gens. IE. the cloaks that go with the MFD in most outfits. Also, the peasent outfit. I got it for Gen 8... and now realise it also exists for earlier gens. In these situations, should I be getting the newest version (because why? it renders better I'm guessing???) or exchanging for an older one?

The items was made to fit a particular Generation, and is rigged for that generation. That means, that the MFD for Genesis 2 works without any deformations that "fit to" brings, on Genesis 2. If you use the Genesis 8 version of the MFD and would want to dress your G2 with it, you'll loose the original movement rigging, and there might be deformations in the dress. The same is true when you try your G2 MFD on G8.
The MFD dresses and expansions are the same for all generations, mesh-wise, and you can swap textures between a V4 MFD and a G8 MFD. But the bones, the rigging, is different, also the scaling and base forms. Each generation's dress is tailored to fit and serve that generation best.
Best advice, buy the one that firs your generation if you have the choice. They render all the same, and you should have Iray textures with the Gen 2 version of the MFD as well. If you are a member of PC+, you can use one of your coupons to get it and its extensions for free.
The newest version in this case isn't always the best choice, but look at it from the bright side - as a PC+ item, the bundle is really cheap, and your G8s will have a neat dress and cloak to wear.
Thank you Bee!! That's perfectly timed, because I can still return my Gen8 stuff and get Gen2. I thought the difference was in how well it looks in render - but if not, as you say, then this really solves my problem. the gen 2 stuff is on sale now and I can still return gen 8!
Keep an eye out for the textures for the earlier generations on this as well, as the textures will transfer from generation to generation with no problem as Bee said. And most of the time, you can get them for a very low cost, especially if you are a PC+ member.
