Help with converting clothes from DS to Poser I'm so confused
I have read the DSON tutorials on this but am still so confused. No matter what I try to do it appears to do nothing when I go to convert. This is an M3 item originally made for Poser.
Here is steps I took:
selected the item in scene then File>Save As>Support Asset>Figure/Prop Assets and saved it under where the original object file is in my M3 runtime. This saves it as a duf and seems to be fine.
This is where I think I'm confusing something.
When you go to convert, from what I've gathered the place you convert has to be a DS library, not a Poser runtime? So I've created a new folder and right click "Content Library" tab and choose create Poser companion files.
Base path and relative path I left alone I'm understanding that is the library location I'm in now.
then under destination I changed the base path to my M3 runtime and left everything else alone and clicked accept.
Nothing shows up in the library.
Am I missing a step?

Just to be clear, this is something you've used AutoFit to convert into a Genesis conformer?
You need to select a folder in your DS content directory when you ave the asset - \People\Genesis\Clothing\AF Conversions say - as the file you are giving the location for is the library file for loading the content. Then you need to tell Create Companion Files where that file is located (if you have the fiel showing in the content pane that should be done for you), and the base path should be the content directory that holds the item.
Then under the Destination settings you again pick the content directory you want tos ave to (might be the same folder as the Base path, might be a separate folder), the relative path should the path from the content directory to the libraries (so usually \Runtime\Libraries).
Wait does the original clothing item have to be in a DS directory? Maybe that's what I'm missing it's in a runtime folder. I'm not sure if that's what you mean.
It was an item I fit using the fit to under parameters.
Also, is there a way to get that fit to option if you just have an obj as opposed to something that is already clothing?
If it's a Michael 3 item fitted to Genesis then you've converted it, and it needs to be handled as above. The asset needs to be saved to a folder you can see under DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library, because it is a DAZ Studio format file, but as long as DS can see the original item it is fine where it is (Poser won't need access to the original CR2 or OBJ, though ti will of course need to be able to get at the textures). If it's a Michael 3 item fitted to Michael 3 then you don't need or want to use the DSON Importer route, just open it directly from the Poser library.
I soon gave up on doing all that and just dowloaded Dimension 3D's python script
http://d3d.sesseler.de/index.php?software=poserpython&product=dson_loader
you only need save it as a .duf asset after autofitting
Wow that's awesome, but is there a way to do that and load the textures? (other than to load each and every material by hand)
