Update daz 4.9 to 4.10

in New Users
If I update ds to latest version, will the files i installed be replaced by a "clean install" or by updating via DIM they'll be kept?
Comments
What files? Content and plug-ins will not be affected (though you should isntall the updated versions of the Daz-branded plug-ins after installing DS), nor will your settings.
i meant all files under Content, but you just said they won't be affected :D
Forgive my stupidity but when I try and download manually, nothing happens, how do I download 4.10 manually?
"when I try and download manually, nothing happens"
I'm not certain that I know exactly what you mean by this. Do you have Daz Studio 4.x Pro listed in your Product Library here at DAZ under your account? If so, when you click on that, do you not get a list of download options, with blue "Download" buttons listed under Manual for the various options? Are you saying that clicking on the blue "Download" button for, say, Daz Studio 4.10 (Win 64-bit) does nothing? Doing so should give the option to either run or save it, unless your security software is blocking it.
I am having (still) the problem of having 4.9 being active but 4.10 being listed in the DIM (see attached). I keep geting the PostgreSQL error messages too (see attached). AND my question keep disrepearing.(mispelled on purpose.)
I don't know (yet) how to check the potential causes either.
Do you have a version of PostgreSQL installed (theer will be at least two, maybe four if you have the beta)? What security software are you running?
ESET NOD32 Antivirus, the security software installed by XIDAX which is supposed to be very good. I HAD PostgreeSQL installed so it must be still. I had to somehow mess up. I just got Faye and Young Lyra for Gen 8 and started to figure out the lighting issues with turning off the Headlamp first. I thought I was getting somewhere. I have Windows 10 Pro, the $99 upgrade that I downloaded. I shall look again for the PostgreSQL installations.
I had found the PostGree installations. But I just found these attached:
I'm not sure that installing appp;ications to a user profile folder is a good idea, but it does look as if it's there on the face of it. If you run DS (or DIM) do you see several entries for PostgreSQL in Task Manager?
I see 8 PostgreSQL Server entries under Processes. Oops. Make that 9. Attached image: And I never personally meant to install anything other than where Windows 10 Pro (in this case) wanted the software installed.
Oh. I have not seen any mention of an active PostgreSQL after the 26th of October. It's been a few days that I've been aware of this, so... I did find mentionof PostgreeSQL mentioned on the 27th, 28th 29th and 30th but with zero bytes if I'm using the correct terminology.
One more question. Is there a way (other than wiping all off the drive and starting over) of removing all of Daz3D and re-installing it. I am now seeing mention of it all over the place. And I've tried. I see that having 5 plus drives is not a good idea. I have put all of Poser's content on C:\ but I want Daz's content elsewhere and I haven't been paying enough attention.
Oh. Here's a shot of all that I could find, but haven't been able to find a way to re-install would I need to re-install,
You can definitely have stuff on different drives, Many of us do and there are threads floating around on how to do it. Let me see if I can track them down for you. The trick is to load the core Studio onto your c drive and then put your content on the other drives.
Okay here is the one that was most helpful when I set mine up. Hope it helps!
I can't help with your Postgre issue though. Last it happened to me I uninstalled everything via DIM if I recall correctly and then re installed with DIM as well.
That's what I would think and have done before.... except with Poser Pro 2014. Now I would like to thank Richard Haseltine because I finally figured out by LOOKING at things that I could delete PostgreeSQL > 10 and reinstall PostgreSQL which has not showed up yet BUT I got no errors When I started Daz3D and all my Smart Content and connections to the store showed up. THANKS! I await those threads you spoke of, IceDragonArt. Thanks.
This one - This was very helpful and easy to follow.

I need to say that Daz3D 4.10 is in my DIM Installed Products, yet I only see 4.9 Pro. There are many things that I would like but they all say they need Daz3D 4.10. Any ideas? I came back here because Richard Haseltine helped me get PostgreSQL going again. (Sorry. I hijacked Erasernicola's thread.)
That's just weird. But I will say this, whenever they upgrade the version everything in the shop changes to saying that it needs the newest version. This does not mean that the stuff won't work in 4.9. As far as I know everything will work fine (except for Dforce, I'm not 100% positive that will work with 4.9. I run 4.8 alongside the latest beta on my laptop and most everything works just fine except for Dforce. It throws an error message out when I use a Gen8 figure but it still works.
Have you considered loading the Beta version to see if that works as it should? you can run the 4.9 and the beta side by side.
I had a similar problem when I updated the DS4.9 Beta to DS4.10 - DIM said it was installing 4.10 but starting DS up it said it was still 4.9. I don't know whether your is the same cause or not, but this was mine:
I run DS on a desktop PC with no internet connection, so I download on my laptop then copy the files over to the desktop to install them through DIM there. This resulted in my having two versions of the .zip/.dsx files, one for DS4.9 and one for DS4.10. I think what I had to do was uninstall DS through DIM, close DIM, manually delete the DS4.9 installation .zip file and its matching .dsx file, restart DIM and install again. The filenames begin IM00012000-02... and have the version number embedded in the filname.
4.9 was a beta version at one point I think. I can't seem to run anything side by side. I've been going in circles trying to see if I run across a fix. Nope. Not yet. Like I said, I download 4.10 and it always says (by DIM) that it's installed. Funny. I noticed that 4.10 did not say WHERE it had been installed. And there's only a Default Resources for Daz 4.9+. Plus (+) mind you. Well I'm just happy that there are no more error messages about PostgreSQL. Aaaagh. Later.
Please, may I dl 4.10? Even if DIM, from a couple of months, doesn't work in my Mac . Mac does not even allow me to open it. Many strange events in Apple from where there's Cloud .....
Just another question: wht is PostgreSQL?
I believe the latest MacOS is much stricter about allowing applications, but can be told to allow them. You can get the non-beta version from your Product Library (type 4.x in the filter box) but will probably have the same issue with its installer.
Security settings has three levels
(1) App Store Only
(2) Appstore and selected developers
(3) Everything
I recommend the level 2.
To run an DIM (this is only the first time it's run), rightclick and select Open.. from the contextual Finder Menu, then Finder will ask "Are you sure you want to run...", allow it.
This will save your choice in the GateKeeper database, so the next time you want to run dim, no more hazzles.
This is a good start
how 4.1 is an update to 4.9? makes no sence
4.10 is to 4.9 ther same way 10 is bigger than nine. 4.10 is NOT a number, it's a build ID, 4.10.0.223 to be axact
