Are you perhaps in Smooth Shaded preview mode? If you click the gear next to the camera/view picker at top-right of the viewport you should be able to select Texture Shaded. I suppose it might also be an Iray issue if you are using the nVidia Iray preview mode, the version of Iray in the beta requires a higher minimum version (at least a Fermi card) than that in the release build.
