Content Management Service: Which sticky shall I believe?

In the stickies, among the many excellent tutorials written by volunteers, there are at least two that describe how to install Daz:

The first sticky is by Scott-Livingston: Downloading and Installing DAZ Studio: a guide and FAQ
The third sticky is by adamr001: Back to Basics Tutorials Installing DS4 and more

The first sticky leads to this link:

Both links have identical screenshots, except that the first link refers to "Daz Studio 4 (64-bit)", while the second link refers to "Daz Studio 4".

For the option referring to the DAZ Content Management Service, first link says:

"It is not recommended that new users customize the Content Management Service."

Second link says:

"Note that below I have checked the box next to 'Customize "DAZ Content Management Service" Installation."

My Smart Content is currently empty, as discussed in another post "No files in left pane at startup".

So, it might be time to do yet another uninstall and re-install.

I would therefore be most grateful for any recommendations as to whether I should believe Scott-Livingstone or adam001.

Firstly yes we have seen and tried to help you with this issue but in your thread http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/20554/ you fail to answer any questions that may help us help you.

Scotts is more up to date than Adams so I would go for Scott's advice.

Now when it comes to the CMS I always uninstall CMS from the Windows > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs (no idea about where that is for Win 8).

But if this was a brand new installation and you installed the Content that comes with Daz Studio and made sure the content directories in Daz Studio are set up correctly (refer to your thread linked above) then there is something on your machine stopping CMS and Daz Studio from communicating, this is normally down to Anti Virus/Firewall issues.

Which advice you follow depends on your system, in part. If you are using an SSD for you boot drive then you probably don't want the relatively high-traffic databases on there, nor will necessarily want to give up the sapce they use, so using the customise option to move the databases to another drive may make sense. it also, if you have your boot/OS drive separate from your docs and content, allows you to make sure the database will survive a system reinstall. On the other hand, a casual user with everything on a single C: partition on a standard HD probably won't want to get involved with customising.

Both of us. :) As Szark said, my information is more up-to-date. Adam's is very helpful too, as long as you keep in mind that some things have changed since he put it together. In some places his tutorial goes into more detail than mine, which some users may appreciate. When I first installed DAZ Studio, I believe I used Adam's tutorial (I didn't follow the instructions properly the first time I tried it, but that's besides the point... :red:)

As far as whether to customize the CMS installation or not, both sources actually recommended using the default location, at least for the typical new user. The reason why Adam says to check the box is so that you'll understand where that location is, which is a good point. But ultimately it's up to you...

The key section was "Re-Import the Metadata". On completion of the procedure, content immediately appeared in the Smart Content pane.
