Which files/folders do I transfer downloaded content(clothing) into the Daz Studio library?
Hi there,
I downloaded a .zip containing a hierarchy of folders (clothing for Genesis from the amazing Wilmap). I got as far as People - Genesis - Clothing and moved what I thought were the right folders but I got a warning message that some files were missing. When I move the entire downloaded folder into my Daz library I end up with a mess.
Is there a simple way to do this?
Thanks!

The Data folder in the zip needs to be merged with the Data folder in your content directory, and the Runtime\Textures folder from the zip needs to be merged with the Runtime\Textures folder in your content directory. DAZ Studio, and Poser, content uses relative paths - it says where stuff is within the content directory (My Library in DS4 by default, though the name and location don't matter as long as DS has been told where to look) rather than giving an absolute location on disc. The People\Genesis\Clothing folder can be merged into the existing folder in your content directory, but those files can be moved around with (relative) impunity.
Richard, thanks for your reply.
I extracted the files to "My Library" folder (with many subfolders! - do I really need that many?) - but when I double-click on the (dress) icon, nothing happens (Victoria has no dress!). These files are .dsa - is that a factor?
Thanks again!
Which dress is this you are having trouble with?
If you can't get items to work then you have probably not put my folders in the correct place.
Wendy,
I tried with the Genesis Regency (winter) - I have an extensive hierarchy of folders and eventually I get to the menu with the icons but double-clicking does nothing. I know I must be doing something wrong (I'm in foreign territory here - complete, struggling newbie!) and I'm going around circles. You have such gorgeous items I'd really like to use so any help is much appreciated!
If you have merged my data, People and runtime folders with the ones in My Library - do this manually not by automatically unzipping and installing - then you need to go to My Library/People/Genesis/Clothing/Pusey Designs/Genesis Regency Dress.
All you need to do is click on the Winter Dress icon and it should load onto Genesis.
Do you get any error messages when you try to load?
I merged the folders you mentioned above into My Library.
Do the Data, People and Runtime folders go into the Daz 3D folders?
If you have opened My Library then those three folders should be merged with the data, People and runtime folders that are in there.
Wendy, I'm not clear what you mean by "Merge" as the "My Library" folder is empty. I tried moving All your folders into the My Library folder, and just the just the people, data and runtime folders, all with the same end result - nothing works. I've been looking for help with this all over Google and Youtube and I find a lot of instruction for Windows and nothing for Mac, which is what I'm using. I'm finding that Daz is not user friendly at all! At this point I don't know what folders go into My Library and what goes into the Daz 3D library... is Poser better for working in?
Thanks
Sorry if you'd said you were using a MAC then I would have said I have no idea on where to put them.
You must have a folder somewhere where you need to put these folders of mine.
Perhaps someone else can help.
I have Flagged this Thread for the DS Mac CV to see as soon as possible. Please give them some time to come online before you give up.
I'm sure there is - just a matter of finding the right one.
Thanks for trying - I appreciate it!
Thank you Jaderail.
Let's hope someone can help.
Hello,
If you are using Mac OS X 10.7 or later finder will give you a merge option, otherwise there are a few different solutions.
I recommend using "my" RendoInstall (free to download here), or use the ditto command using the terminal if your comfortable with that.
Hi,
My Mac is 10.6.8 but I will try the RendoInstall.
Is there anyplace I can find help for using Daz that is not for Mac?
Thanks
