Creature Creator Tail Tufts Render Issue

Has anyone had any issues rendering the M4 V4 creature creator tails. I have a render going and its stuck on the tufts. I have no idea why that is.

Transparency, especially multi-layered transparency and extra-especially if you have ray-traced shadows on your lights, or ambient occlusion on an environment light, can take a long time to render.
Ok that makes sense, is there a way to minimize that in the tail?
If you apply ubersurface instead of the current shader on the tail (hold down ctrl when double-clicking and choose ignore for the maps setting) you can exclude the surface from ray-tracing and/or occlusion. Of course that may not look as good - it's a trade off.
That could work, If it does not looks as good its no real biggie being that its jut the tails.
what I did to get it rendering was just turn the tuft off.
