So what are “Autofit Clones?”

I’ve heard the term “clones” used multiple times in the context of auto fitting. Can one of you gurus explain what they are and how they work? (I have this unquenchable desire to know how stuff works under the hood...)

Autofit Clones are special morphs of the various Genesis figures that allow DAZ Studio to convert clothing between figures. They work by matching the shape of the Genesis figure to the clothing's base figure, which allows the program to then reshape the clothing geometry to fit the Genesis figure. From there, the program transfers the rigging and weightmapping of the Genesis figure to the clothing.
