Zev0 Growing Up for G3

For those of you stilling working with G3, I have a question. I've purchased lots of characters and I would like to be able to use the Growing Up morphs by Zev0 to scale them down to into young people. But for a lot of characters both male and female I've found that doing this isn't so easy. I know Growing Up contains morphs for the head, weight, posture. etc. Mostly, I have just been using the Youth Morph an not any of the others. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure how it's all supposed to work or if I'm doing something wrong. I'm posting a pic with Alex HD for Michael 7 using just the Youth Morph on the left and Tween Ryan beside him just as is for a comparison. As you can see, Alex looks more like a miniature adult rather then a young boy. So my question is am I doing something wrong or do other morphs need to be applied in order for it to come out right? I know this type of question must of been asked before. A good tutorial would certainly be helpful.

  • You may need to try lowering the strength of the character, though not every one will work even then. That's a downside with custom sculpts that include all of the modifications, especilally adding ruggedness to the base male (or breast enhancement to the female)

    I've sometimes found it easier to go the other way — start with the base G3 figure, apply one of the Growing Up presets, add the character texture I want, then manually dial in the head and body character morphs. Note that the head morph might look best at a little bit less than 100%, and the body morph at a bit more than a little bit less than 100%, especially for a female character. I usually end up tweaking the character size/height/body proportions as well, since the Growing Up presets are only in four steps, with a fair bit of sprouting up in between them.

    Ok, so when I got home tonight, I followed Richard's suggestion first. Here is the test render below. Basically all I did was reduce the strength of the Alex character to 25% for both the body and head and I removed the Micheal 7 morph for the head completely because by default it seems to always be loaded in there on a lot of these characters. This certainly seems to be moving in the right direction. Now at present, I don't own either the G3 head or body morphs or Zev0 shapping morphs but I think once they go on sale that's going to be my next purchase. Taking out some of the muscle mass out of the thighs I think certainly would help make the character appeal more juvenile.

    To your suggestion SpottedKitty, that's a very interesting idea. It never had occured to me to start with the base G3 character and then begin adding morphs and textures. I have however started with some of the tween and teen characters and at least that keeps me in the right range but I think I'll try out your idea also.

    As Richard says, the problem is the HD sculping that goes into the way. Usually sculpting is for muscles and wrinkles. While the overall proportions and shapes may be done with morphs. So the solution proposed by SpottedKitty seems better to me.

    But at the end in my opinion it's that HD characters simply don't fit the grow-up "technology".

    Hi,

    I think, it's not enough to only apply the Growing Up presets.
    It would be helpful to modify some of the face proportions, i.e. jaw size / hight (most important), nose size / hight, mouth hight, "face young", eyes size, etc. And hair has a big influence. too.

    In the attachment I played around with Leo7, using the youth morphs - not the presets. The skin is the growing up skin with eyebrows-1.

  • I've also found that the "Lithe" full-body morph helps make overly-manly body shapes look more youthful. You might try adding a bit of it to the mix.

    And, of course, children are not uniform in height or proportions.

  • Hello everyone!

    Since people still seem to be commenting on this post, I thought I would provide a quick update regarding my original question which prompted this discussion. So, after reading what other people had written I started doing some more experimenting and this is what I arrived at. It's actually much easier to modify G3 figures then I had thought, at least for the males and what surprised me the most is that the Zev0 grow up morphs don't even seem to be needed at all! I can't say that this technique will work universally across all characters (George for instance!) but I have tried it on three so far and it seems to do the job quite well. Here are the steps....

    1. Start with the base character (so for this example, I'm choosing Tween Ryan 7)

    2. After your character loads, apply both the head and body morphs and the corresponding textures of the character you want it to be. (In this example, I picked Alex HD for Michael 7 on the left and Simon HD for G3 on the right)

    3. Some minor tweaking might be necessary. In the case of Alex his muscles were way too defined so I simply reduced the character strength down to about 30%. On a character like Dash, you might want to reduce the thigh thickness as well if you have Zev0 shaping morphs. 

    Other then that, it seems to work. For females, the tween character doesn't accept morphs as well that were designed for older characters so I used teen Josie 7 instead and it worked fine.

  • Keep in mind the Growing Up Morphs are intended for you to create your own youth characters, not to "de-age" existing characters.
