Missing poses and animations on mac

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi,

Hoping someone can help out here. Recently I installed 4.5.1.56 Pro ( 64-bit ) on a macbook pro running 10.7.5. Everything was running great until the logicboard fried. So I ended up buying a new iMac running os 10.8.3 and reinstalled all my daz ( 64-bit ) onto that. I noticed right away that on my old computer I had access to all kinds of poses and animations under the Pose & Animate tab and yet on my new instal...which I am quite certain came from the same installer, shows nothing under that tab. I also do not seem to have anything showing up in my smart content window which I have been able to work around just using the Content Manager, but not having access to the animations and poses is kind of a bummer. I looked all through the Content Manager and could not find any poses or animations that I previously had on my other instal. Anyone know how or why this happened and can I fix this? Thanks in advance!

I will send your post to our Mac CV's and they should be able to help you. It might be a bit before they log in but I'm sure the help you need will be here as soon as possible.

If we are lucky another Mac user will help you before too much longer.

    Hello,

It really sounds like your CMS ain't running at all.
If you go to /Applications/Utilities and start the Activity Monitor, and select All processes, do you see a process called DAZ Content Manager Service?

And if you check the log file in DS under Help->Troubleshooting->View Log File, does you see anything that mentions valentina, which usually is a log about not being able to access the CMS.

10.8 is much more paranoid when it comes to security, but I have a 10.8 system running flawless with DS so it do work when everything is happy.

    Thanks for your help Totte!

Yes, I can see the Daz Content Manager Service in my Activity Monitor and in my log I found these mentioning valentina...

WARNING: /src/dzvalentinaobjectdatabase.cpp(36): DB Register Open error: Stream read error.
DB Register Open error: Stream read error.
WARNING: /src/dzvalentinaobjectdatabase.cpp(36): DB Register Open error: Stream read error.
DB Register Open error: Stream read error.

    any ideas how to proceed?

    Thanks again!

OK, thats what I was suspecting (DS can't talk to the CMS).

There are a couple of things that can go wrong.

    But first do this:
    Quit DS
Stop the CMS with the scripts I mentioned
    Start the CMS again.
Start DS and see if it is happy now.

If not, we need to dig a little deeper.
You can locate the CMS logfile btw (it's in the Content Manager directory in a folder named vlogs, you can look at a logfile with Textedit or TextWranger, it might say something of interest.

Do I stop the CMS thru the Activity Monitor Totte?

Good point! I added the reply to the Mac FAQ

Starting / Stopping the DAZ Content Manager Service
    In Programs/DAZ 3D/DAZ Studio (32 or 64)bit is a folder named service.
    It holds two Applescripts:
    Start DAZ Content Management Service
    Stop DAZ Content Management Service

Use them to Start/Stop the content manager, do not use the terminal or the Activity Monitor or Force Quit dialog.

Okay I double clicked on the Stop CMS script and then on the Start CMS script, both times required me to enter my admin password. I opened up DAZ but I still have the same problem, no communication with DCM.

By the way I just checked my firewall setting and I do have it set to "Allow incoming connections" for the ContentManagementServer if that is necessary and relevant.

Ok, time to look at what the vlogs logfiles says.
It's as I wrote located on the vlogs folder in the CMS directory /Library/DAZ 3D/Content Manager Service

    Hi Totte,

The only way I know of for me to access my Library is to hold down the option key while accessing the "Go "dropdown menu up above, tho I do not see a DAZ3D folder in there ( pics provided ). Is this where you are talking about? I also looked in my Documents/DAZ 3D folder and also the folders in Applications/DAZ 3D/ but could not find a vlog folder. Am I looking in the right place? Thanks again for this!

Not ~/Library (in your home) but /Library (on root boot disk)

OK, now we need to switch on some logging so you can see in the logfile of DS can successfully connect (I know I helped someone with this a while back).

There is a file in the Content Manager Folder named "DAZ Content Management Service.ini".
Open that with [url= http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/]TextWrangler (if you don't have it, download it as it's free and awesome)

Lodate a line in the beginning that says:

    VerboseLevel=0

    change that to:

    VerboseLevel=2

Save the file (you will probably need to authenticate to save the changes, that's why TextWrangler is good to use for this.

Now Stop/Start the Content Manager Server again.

The start DS, just quickly check you smart content then quit (or your log will be so full of stuff).
Now check the newest logfile in vlogs, do you see any lines like:
Connection Established with '127.0.0.1 in the log?

I was able to change the .inl file in TextWrangler to VerboseLevel=2 and save. I stopped and restarted DCM with the scripts and then opened up DS, but sadly I still did not see anything in my smart content. Here is what the latest log said...
