Iray and GTX 970

I need to upgrade my video card. I don't have a lot of money. THe cheapest card I can buy is the gtx 970 which is currently selling at $150.00 has anyone used the card for Iray render, if so how good is it.

I started out with a 3.5 ghz Intel i5 and no gpu.  I then moved to a 4.0 ghz i7 with a 970.  I never did any formal comparison testing but my renders seemed to be about 10 to 12 times faster.  This kind of thing is very much dependent on issues such as the complexity of the scene and the number of figures in it  but you should find your 970 a substantial improvement.

Bear in mind, however, that your scenes must fit in the 970's 4GB of memory.

Make sure your power supply is up to the job, as well.  Depending on the version, the 970 will require between 180 and 250 watts.

    Happy rendering.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

If he is using Windows 10, the available VRAM will be much lower than that since around 20% will be reserved. (~3.3 GB VRAM available with a display attached)
