What can I do to keep working on the desktop while rendering

I'm running a 1080ti, ryzen 1800x, 32 gb ram (only 2666 MHz) only gpu rendering.
But when I render complex scenes I can't work on the desktop as even the cursor lags sometimes. I tried setting the priority to low but then the rendering is very slow. Do I need a second graphics card or what can I do?

"I tried setting the priority to low" I asssume you did this in task manager. I usually set Daz to below normal and things work fine.
If you have on board graphics you could try using that to drive you monitor and not plug any video cables into the 1080. Combining this with lowering the prioity of course.
Last are you absolutely sure the 1080 is rendering? You can use CPUID HWMonitor to check card memory usage and gpu utilization.
