How to transfer a figure between scene files

Is there a way to transfer a G3F figure with morphs, textures, clothing, and parented props  from one scene file into another scene file?  I am working in Daz 4.9 on a Mac.

Any instructions or referrals to other fouum topics that may help me and this would be greatly appreciated.

 Thank you!

Save the figure as a scene subset, then you can load it into the new scene.

  • Thank you! The process described worked. I now have the character (and all parented items) saved a scene subset. I am able to bring the character into a scene using the "Merge Into..." command by right clicking on the scene "Set" icon that was created in the " Presets" folder. So here's the next challenge: when the character is added to the new scene, the figure and several of its props are out of position and (in some cases) reverted to their original, unmodified, zero-pose state.

Any suggestions on how I can get the character and all it's parented items into the scene in the exact pose, position, etc. in which it was saved as a scene set?

Try saving it as a scene rather than subset. Might require removing everything in the scene you do not want first.

That shouldn't happen. The scene subset is supposed to save in exactly the state and posistion everything is in. Have you tried simply loading the subset, not merging it? Does it all then go weird, too?

  • Like Bea said that's weird. The only thing that never loads where I put it is my default camera in a scene subset.  Maybe try loading just the scene subset first and then load the rest of the scene you want.

  • Definitely shouldn't happen. How exactly did you go about preparing and performing the scene subset save? Are you sure you ticked all the boxes for scene parts you wanted included?

Note that for fully kitted out characters, this works best if all the hair, clothes, held props etc. are parented to the figure. That simplifies the ticking-boxes part, and ensures that all parented objects won't move relative to the figure.

Also note, "Merge Into" is not necessary for a scene subset; it's the default behaviour when you click on the subset in the content library, unlike a scene, which defaults to "delete current scene and load".

Which reminds me; did you save the scene subset directly into the Content Library, or into some other not-known-to-DAZ|Studio folder?

  • Thank you! Your suggestion worked.
