The best way to do top view without ceiling like in the picture?

Hi,
I want to render a lot of pictures like in the image below. Currently I do that by set the Cutout Opacity of the surface of the ceiling to 0. However, I notice that in some sets for example the Brooklyn Apartment, the ceiling surface is also the walls surface, so I would also set the wall opacity to 0 too.
Is there a better way to do that?
Thank you very much.

For Iray try a section plane (Create>New Iray Section Plane Node) which will hide everything in front of it (by default, you can rotate it the other way if desired).
Thank you very much :D
