DS camera terms?

With the cameras in DS, what exactly does the "focal distance" and the "f stop" mean, and what do they do? Are you meant to see
them doing something, like you can with the focal length?

They are used when you have Depth of Field on - focal distance controls the distance to the middle of the in-focus area, and fStop controls the depth of the in-focus area. If you look through a different camera when adjusting them you will see in-scene guides reflect the settings (a sphere for the middle of the in-focus area and two planes for its boundaries), but you will need to render to see the actual DoF effect.
Here is a whole thread devoted to DOF http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/5084/#63872
