Problem texturing

Hello,
I created a simple disk (a flat cylinder obj) and a jpeg map to texture it that I apply as a map.
Pic 1 shows what happens, pic 2 is an example of what happens when I play with vertical/horizontal tiling and offseting.
Obviously not the result desired.
What am I doing wrong ?
What area do I have to work on ?
Thanks,
Oliver

How did you create the model? Is it properly UV mapped?
Hi Richard,
Created with 3DS MAX with no texturing (may this be the problem ? I'm not "fluent" in max). And DAZ only allows for the "default UV" option in the surface tab.
Did you UV unwrap the item in Max?
IF not, then that's the problem. As there isn't really any UV mapping. The default UV in Studio is just saying that there is only one (or none) UV set attached to the geometry. If there was more than one, it would allow you to switch between them.
Thanks, ny problem is now to UV map in MAX. Any tip, please ?
Furthermore, how to UV map complex geometries like extruded polygons...
UV mapping is set to planar. Am I on the right track and where do I go from there please ?
Seems like there is some sort of repeating going on. I don't have Max to be of specific use but maybe this will help: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-78327298-4741-470C-848D-4C3618B18FCA-htm.html
Yes thank you, it will definitely help. Rather complex but I will study it carefully and hopefully get it right !
