Daz Studio on Server Computer

Has anyone realized the idea to install Daz Studio on a server computer?

As known,  a motherboard of server computers has an additional controller of memory that allows for CPU to work with great volume of RAM (for example 1 TB DDR4). This is very good to manage libraries of objects and for rendering.

Step 1: To get a server computer as a gift. Step 2: To install Linux OS (for example Ubuntu). Step 3: To install VirtualBox. Step 4: To install Windows 7 as a guest OS. Step 5: To install Daz Studio on this Windows 7. Step 6: To install virtual drive into RAM on this Windows 7 and place libraries of objects on this virtual drive.

  • The issue with running DS under a virtual machine tends, I believe, to be GPU support - especially for Iray, but people have tried and had trouble getting DS to run at all.

Commonly, software like VirtualBox, VMWare, etc, "virtualize" all the devices in the system and have their own drivers. Thus, the virtual machine will probably not look like it has an NVidia graphics card, even if the host does. (That's a guess, mind you.) Might still work for CPU rendering if you can get Daz to play nice in the environment.

Umm...try Step 3:  Install Wine.  Step 4 Install Studio...

No need to go virtual, you can install Studio with many of the latest versions of Wine (make sure it is a full 64 bit version) and the proprietary Nvidia drivers to full Iray support in a Linux environment.
