I got the Jaggies!

Hi everyone,

Ok, so what do I need to do, too get rid of the jaggies? What needs to be turned off or on to handle "aliasing" in a render. I am having an issue with some straight (glossy gold texture) edges being stair cased bigtime. It seems to be happening on the reflective edge of the gold texture I am using. Is this a known issue with iRay? Is there a fix? Will I have to paint this out in photoshop?

Any ideas?

    A picture helps a lot.

    It's not a known issue.

  • Here is an image of the situation. As you can see, it only effects the gold.

I suspect that it's not the gold, but the straight edge that is the problem.

I tried loading a similar prop and material and then looking through the render settings until I found something that made it look a little more like yours, so hopefully this might help:

Try going to Render Settings > Filtering

Set the Pixel Filter Radius to 1.5. (I got the jaggies by dropping this to 0.1)

You might also want to try setting Pixel Filter to Gaussian.

  • Thanks Dim Reaper!

That solved the issue perfectly. I am an old Poser user. So, I guess that makes me a newbie Daz Studio user. That being said, I guess I still need to put my nose back into the user manual.

All in all, I learned something and that has great value! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • No problem, glad I could help. I am also an old Poser user. Still using it, but about 2 weeks ago I decided to give DS yet another go and this time the content library seemed to work for the first time. I'm loving the Iray renderer and so still just trying to figure things out a bit at a time through trial and error.  Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.
