No textures!

Hello! I'm a complete noob and I'm having trouble using content that I don't download from Daz3D. I've downloaded stuff from renderosity and everything I download from there seems to be missing textures: I end up with a mass of grey rectangles. I also get an error message that some stuff is missing, but it's atcually right where it's suppose to be... I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any help is strongly appreciated! Here's the log files of one of the product I downloaded from renderosity: It's zombietaggerung's one bedroom house. One logfile is the log file of the product when I try to open it, the other is the logfile of the file which is supposedly missing.

Can you post a screenshot, from the OS file manager, of your content directory...this kind of behavior is very typical of 'nested' directories.  Also include a shot of the Content Directory Manager, within Studio, showing the mapped content directories.

  • You say you've "downloaded" stuff; how did you actually install it? Manual installation (the only option for non-DAZ content) is fairly straightforward once you get used to it, but there are a few gotchas that can bite you in the anatomy if you don't know about them.

Yes I installed the content manually. What are those gotchas that I need to know?

Sounds like a good idea. Can you explain to me in detail how to find what I'm suppose to take a screenshot of? I'm really unexperienced with DAZ. I attached another screenshot if that can help...

You need to change those paths in Content Directory Manager to match your actual content location,

    D:\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

The main one is that not all other stores arrange their .zip files in exactly the same way as DAZ does, so it's not a good idea to unzip directly into your live content location. For freebies, not all freebie makers arrange their zip files correctly. The solution for both is to unzip to a dummy folder (most people use a folder on the desktop so you can find it easily), then look at the folder structure to make sure it matches what's already in your content location before moving the files over. Beware of speling misteaks in folder names.

One side advantage of doing it this way is you can see exactly where your new content files are before they disappear into the depths of a large and complicated folder structure. It's surprisingly easy to lose new stuff if you just do a blind unzip without checking first.

Heeeeeeeeeeey there we go! You, sir, have my gratitude and you deserve that name of yours! Thank you so very much!
