Transfer utility deforming clothes

I have a sleaveless cloak that I'm trying to add to my character using the Transfer Utility. Now because it's sleeveless, the T-posed arms stick through the side. When I use the transfer utility, the coat tries to wrap around the arms, creating bulges around them. How do I get it to ignore the arms and keep the original shape?

Are you applying a Smoothing Modifier?
The first time I did, the second time I didn't.
I put the figures arms down, and tried again and this time it bunched it up under the arm pit, but I found that if I delete the weightmaps assigned to the shoulder area, the cloak sorts itself out. I'll try add those weight maps to the chest or something. Hopefully this will work and wont lead to other problems down the line (transfering the cloak when the figure isn't using its default pose)
