Beauty canvas not hiding object

Usually if you have an emissive surface, like a large rectangle lighting a prop, it shows up in the render, unless you use a beauty canvas. Then you can add the light to the scene without rendering the large emissive rectangle. 

in the past it has worked 100%, but for some reason in my latest scene, it's taking out the bright green emissive cone, and replacing it with a black cone instead.

If I add the alpha option in canvases, it then replaces the bright green rectangle with a alpha rectangle, effectively cutting a huge cone shape into my image.

Has anyone ever experienced this who can lead me in the right direction?
