So I could for instance use the ones for G8 without the "required" V8 but maybe it wouldn't look exactly the same ?

    Thanks again mate ;)

Oh, and do you know a good add-on (preferably for G3 male, although I guess they'll do it for G8 when it comes out, when is that again ?) for creating beards ?

It looks like there isn't one essential hair morphing bundle, just lots of various hair kits ?

And yeah, I prefer Rebekah too, but it requires V8, I might just go for the morphing kit or for some others like Deanna instead.

"Other Shapes supported in Daz Studio by Auto-follow", that includes, like... What ?

Correct! See the attached image below. On the left is Rebekah without any V8 dialed in, In the right is the "full" Rebekah. To me, the most noticable difference is the lack of HD morphs in the non V8 version, but both look good. You just need to make sure that the character uses the UV set you have. This is not an issue for G8F so far, as V8 and Olympia 8 use the base G3F UV set, but the G3F  numbered characters had their own UV's ..... though most PA's used the base G3F UV's for their add-on characters that required one of the numbered characters morphs, so it isn't much of an issue with G3F.

I don't use the male models much, so I can't really answer. But if you post this question in the Commons I'm sure you will get some great recommendations (the Commons is where most users "hang out").

As noted above, see the image below. IMHO, the base morphs will allow you to extend the usefulness of any characters you buy, so give the choice, I would say get the one you want, plus the morphs.

That's just the standard statement to let you know (or maybe I should say to "remind" the potential customer) that even though they haven't included specific morphs for all shapes (which includes shapes that will be released in the future), that the garment or hair will fit just about any shape using auto-follow.

On the left is Rebekah without V8, on the right is the "full" Rebekah with V8 (be sure to click on the image to zoom to full resolution)

And by default, most characters use auto-follow since G3 ?

Auto-follow, or also called autofit, has been available since the first fersion of Genesis. So all Genesis versions use it, but you may need to get other utilities to make it easy, like Wear Them All (or follow SickleYield's tutorial to do it yourself). For example, the image below is the Rhomb Suit for Genesis 3 on Victoria 8, you'll note that in the description for the suit it says noting about V8, but it fits thanks to auto-follow/autofit (if you have G8F/V8 selected when you load the suit, a dialoge comes up that allows you to select the figure the suit was designed for, and the type of item it is (in this case you would select "Genesis 3 Female", and "Full Body").

Oh BTW, I got Plat+, I suppose the monthly coupons must be used between the "anniversary" dates, not the current calendar month ?

  • DustRiderDustRider Posts: 2,800

No, it's calender month. They expire at 12:00 midnight US Mountain Time (same as Utah, where the DAZ offices are) on the last day of the month. PC+ really does pay for itself, and being new, the annual PC sale will have a lot of good deals for you. They often have "bundles" of 10 or so back catalog items for something like $1.99, plus last year they had great deals on Genesis 2 Pro bundles (maybe Genesis 3 this year). Just beware, spending here can get addictive wink

    Ok, noted, thanks. ;)

Yeah, I'm trying to be reasonnable lol. Especially because I'm not sure yet of the use I will have of this app, of Blender and of Make Human. But I suppose I'll use those promos. ;)

I guess I'll see all that in october then ! And from what I see G8 Male should come out around November (if it follows the previous trends).

But I'm careful not to buy anything before G3, and I'll try to favour mostly G8 because those generations really look better to me than what came before.

Speaking of buying, what is the calendar of promotions (freebies, P+, bundles etc) ? In other terms, how often should I check and how long can I wait before making a decision ? Also, how long do the "new" releases usually stay "new" ?

New PC+ Items (normally 4 per week) come out on a Wednesday. The weekly freebie is made available the same day - you should get the PC+ Newsletter to alert you to what these are. If you buy one of the new PC+ releases that week there will be one or more older items available at 60% off their normal price (e.g. 2.00 instead of 4.99 or 1.60 instead of 3.99) - these will also be listed in the Newsletter - if your Newsletter doesn't arrive that morning there is a sticky thread in the PC Forum with links to the Newsletters. On the first Wednesday of the calendar month the Monthly Freebie will be made available - links in the Newsletter again - and remain free until the end of that month.

One thing though, the schedule is good most of the year but during the PC Aniversary Sale (October) the schedule may change as there are often extra freebies and the release of some mega-bundles of older PC+ items either free or at a "bargain" price.

ETA: Oh and new releases are at a reduced price (70%)for (normally) two weeks, then they move to regular PC+ price points. They remain "new" for the purpose of counting as a new item for a promo that offers a deal on other store items for 60 days, just like any other item in the store.

And there's this thread where the new releases are announced and discussed: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/41252/the-once-thursday-and-future-tuesday-and-now-wednesday-thread-part-iii#latest

Auto-follow, or also called autofit, has been available since the first fersion of Genesis.

AutoFit is the tool which allows conversion of fitted items from another, supported, figure to the current figure.

AutoFollow is the tool which generates morphs in fitted items to match those in the base figure, if the fitted item doesn't already have a morph of the same name.

You're talking about new PC+ releases ? What about standard ones ? Like, how long will the promos on G8 Male related stuff go on, 60 days too ?

And I'm really missing some clothes / shoes (and maybe hair) for G8, usually when a new gen comes out how often do they release new stuff (more often than the rest of the time I suppose) ?

So much nice information, a very useful read thank you for that.

Without trying to highjack this thread from the OP I have a couple of additional questions.

I'm going to start up on a project where I will do a lot of still pictures, and some animations. It will be simple animations - like pointing, clapping, jumping or similar. Nothing fancy like swordfights etc. as my focus is more story driven.

    So to my questions:

    • Which genesis model's should I use as a base? I expect this project to last a couple of years.
    • Which genesis models have the most content around? (I guess it's the older ones or?)

I'm afraid to make a wrong choice in my starting point, and would like to avoid having to redo my characters due to choosing wrongly.

Also, i'm still a bit confused about the version of the models avaliable.

I hope the above makes sense :)
