Upgrading from DS4.8 to 4.9 Problems

Hi,

So I downloaded the latest 4.9 version and went to install it.  It un-installed my 4.8 version but then produced two errors during setup (see attached image).  Now I have a blank 4.9 shortcut icon which gives me a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file....."  Has anyone else experienced these problems and what is the work around?

I did do two downloads of the installer in case something got corrupted during the downloading, but this doesn't seem to be the case as an un-install followed by a re-install of the second download produced the same errors.

    I'm having a similar problem with 4.9, but the beta version works.

    I tried the manual download and installation, worked fine..no idea why dim was having problems with it.

    Hi Mechaven,

    I seem to have gotten it to work based off of your suggestion.

    I added the 4.9 beta to my downloadable product pages but I couldn't do a manual download, so I downloaded and ran the Daz Install Manager.  The DIM would only give me the current 4.9 version for downloading (4.9.4.117).  I couldn't see the Beta version even when I had checked the shown hidden radio button at the top the DIM page.  It downloaded and installed the current version without any errors.  I was able to start and run DS4.9 without any problems (so far).

    Maybe there is something wrong with the manual download file?

    Hey, I guess we were composing our reply messages at the same time.  Weird -- I have had success with the reverse method.  I'm glad that you got it working.

    I had 4.9 installed and working fine, and then about 3 or 4 days ago it just flat stopped working, all I could get is the flash screen like it is trying to load. I uninstalled it and used the DIM to re-install about 6 times and then tried a manual DL, still no luck - so I tried DIM again and it went to 99% then told me it cannot find two files, QtCore4.dll and QtXml4.dll - I still do not have DAZ 4.9 on my computer though Studio works (to be honest, I didn't know that Studio was independant from DAZ).

    Any suggestions?

    When you say Daz, what do you mean? Daz3D is the company Daz Studio is the application. What exactly works?

    I've been un able to upgrade from 4.8 to 4.9 for months, and I'm getting little in the way of help. the DL'r dl's 4.9, shows it "installed" but it doesn't  open, do anything, upgrade my current studio, nothing.

     

    I've been told to uninstall 4.8 and then it will install 4.9 for me, w/o destroying/losing/erasing any of my content. Is that really true?

    You should back up your content library that DAZ Studio uses prior to doing the upgrade, so that you can get it back if necessary.

    Based on my limited experience, all of your content should still be intact under your users' profile which is usually found at C:\Users\"your name"\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library on a Windows based computer.  You should be able to click-navigate to this location by clicking on your "Document" then clicking through the folders "Daz 3D > Studio > My Library"

    I had initially panicked when the installation of 4.9 had failed and I had un-installed it, leaving me with neither 4.8 or 4.9 installed on my computer.  But when I navigated to My Library location all my content was still present.  And when I got 4.9 up and running, my organized content was successively loaded.  So far, everything has been working.

    I should mentioned that I had backed-up My Library about a month ago, so if things were really messed up, I could always re-install 4.8 and re-import my content.

    Fastbike1 - When I go to the Library for Windows 10, I have two listings under "D" - DAZ3D and then another DAZ Productions, under DAZ Productions ther is an applications called "Studio" that will launch - might be very old version of DAZ that has carried forward from computer to computer (??) - I just looked, it was released September 12 ,2005 Build 1.0.0.0 - Wow! Is this an original?

    Under DAZ3D is Bryce and the Install Manager.

    Ah, previous victims had been using McAfee or Avast - I was hoping it was going to be a pattern.
