Hello

I'm in europe, so excuse me for english grammar issues found in my posts.
First I want to ask if my username is ok, because I didn't know my email name will be used. Since it has daz in it (because I created an email for using here) I wonder if it's ok or will I have to create a new account?
I tried DazStudio a couple of years ago, but back then my computer just wasn't strong enough to run it smoothly. Now I have a real good machine. I havn't installed anything yet, so here are my questions:

I read C++ will be installed during the process. Now my Video editing software already installed that not so long ago. Will I have to uncheck boxes while installing the studio?

I have a 1 TB HD with 2 similar sized partitions. Would it be a good idea to install daz to my other partition, which I mainly use for huge video files? (I'm doing plenty of video editing on this machine) Main question regarding this: Do I need to install it not at the default location (C:) ? Would there be an advance? On C I have windows, my video editing software and a MMORPG which is quite big.

I read the DSON installer would be the right one using on windows 7 64. Is that true?

I plan going with genesis, since I don't own older figures anyway. What works with genesis and what with DazStudio 4.5? I often read requirements: DazStudio. So will that stuff work in 4.5? For example the old Sea Life packs or the octopus. Will generation 4 stuff work with genesis? Or what do I need that it does? Elite Skin textures and stuff like that.

The Content manager: Is it a background program that adds to the autostart?

So, that's it for now. I hope I won't have to create a new account.

Regards

rakor. If you send a PM to either Richard Haseltine or adamr001 giving them the screen name you would like to use then they can change that for you. There is no need to start a new account in order to change your screen name, but yes it does indeed need altering please.

Give Richard or Adam a couple of alternatives, in case your first choice is already in use.

Since rakor was free I've just chopped the .daz off for now - if that's OK you don't need to do anything else, if you want something different just click the PM button under my avatar and let me know (as Chohole says, give a couple of alternatives in case your first choice is taken).

In general, here's what works with Genesis:

    - Any products that indicate that they are compatible with Genesis (but be sure to check to see if there are additional requirements)
    - Any skin textures for Victoria 4, Michael 4, or Kids 4 will work on Genesis. You just need to go to the Surfaces tab and change the UV map setting, which is easy to do.
    - Clothing for Victoria 4, Michael 4, or Kids 4 can AutoFit to Genesis, but results vary (shoes and long dresses usually don't work so well...there are ways to fix them, but that can get somewhat complicated...here is one good option: http://www.daz3d.com/sickle-rigging-and-morphing-system)
    - Nearly any hair for any figure can be used with Genesis, but it may take some effort to get it to fit properly (see the Hair Tutorial linked in my signature for more information on doing this). The same is true of handheld props for other figures...you can use them, but you may need to manually move them into place.
    - Poses for other figures can be used on Genesis, but may require some manual adjustments for best results. PoseMaster can help with this.
    - Morphs and expressions for other figures do not work with Genesis, but there's a product in the store that will transfer older morphs to Genesis: http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x

What works with DAZ Studio 4.5 and what doesn't:

    - For items sold in the store here, if it lists "DAZ Studio" as a compatible software, then it should work fine in the latest version of DAZ Studio, with a few exceptions. Make sure you read the "Additional Information" and "What's Included and Features" sections of the product page. These exceptions will state something like "DAZ Studio 3 only," or "Not compatible with DAZ Studio 4.x." If you encounter a product that says it's not compatible with DAZ Studio 4.x, then it's only for use in previous versions of DAZ Studio, and you should avoid it if you're only using DAZ Studio 4.5. If it says "DAZ Studio 3 only," then it's best to ask here in the forum first.

    - Some items are compatible with DAZ Studio, but have textures optimized for use in Poser. For best results, some adjustments will be needed. These typically will have a warning like, "Optimized for P6+," or, "MAT Poses may require adjustment in DAZ Studio."

    Thank you Scott

I still havn’t installed anything yet. I’m still reading thru the forum and watching video guides. The genesis figure seems to be amazing. I’m planning to do underwater renders mainly. So I wanted to ask about the “Sea Life Packs”, the “Under the Sea” and “With the Fishes” products. For the scuba equipment I would need the genesis generation X, I guess? Or will it work using the autofix?

I’m planning to buy the Genesis starter bundle first with the evolutin head & body morphs included.

    I just discovered there’s a V4 diving gear aswell.

    Hello again

So, I downloaded and installed DazStudio 4.5 pro now. Everything went fine. I don't use the DIM yet, since I wanted to install everything manually to know exactly what's going on. Maybe I will give it a try later. I bought the Genesis Starter Bundle and Victoria 5. Everything seems to be working, but I want to make sure I did everything right. So:
From the files offered I downloaded and installed the ...trx.exe files. (I'm on windows 7, 64 bit, running DazStudio 64bit)
Is that right? I guess the files with the DIM sign are only for installing using DIM, right?
I also bought a third party poser product, which came in a zip. In the textfile it said "copy files to your runtime folder". So I went to my documents... (where my stuff is... I installed everything with default settings), opened the runtime folder, which I found there and copied every file from the zip in its proper folder. Is this the right way installing poser stuff?

    Thank you

Yes, that is correct. That is what the Runtime folder in the DS content folder is for, Poser Content.

Until Genesis came out last year, all DAZ 3D characters prior to that had been in Poser Format (CR2). Genesis and it's morphs can be found in DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library, all other figures, V4, M4, V3, M3 etc etc, can be found in Poser Formats.
