How to create 2 objects from one object?

I don't really have yet the technical jargon about what I want to explain to you guys. Basically, I got a freebie of some nipplecovers or nipple tassels, but I have trouble fitting this object to my character. This product seems very basic. I found a video from Daz that explain follow nodes and parenting, so I'll be ok for that I think. The thing I want to ask today is how could I split the geometry of the nipple tassels to make 2 (the right and the left one) so I can select and pose each sides independantely. As of right now I can only scale and rotate the pair as a whole.

Do you get where I'm going? Need more info?

Thank you!

Use the Geometry Edit tool - select one side (you may be able to do this quickly using existing groups or surfaces in the tool  settings pane - just click the + next to the name), then right-click, Geometry Visibility>Hide Selected, then right-click again, Geometry Editing>Delete Hidden Polygons. SAve that (export as OBJ or File>Save as>Support Assets>Figure prop Asset), reload the original OBJ and repeat the steps to delete the other half.
