I lost my categories !!! How to restore categories ???
General situation :
I work with a 2 screen computer setup. Therefore i have the luxery to use daz3d studio 4.5 with the posing window on 1 screen, and 1 window with all the panels on the other screen.
Daz studio has not a real 2 screen option but by using "Make pane un-dockable" on one of the panel tab's the second window is created.
To be able to reopen the second window after accidentally closing it the only option is "window / workspace / save layout as"
I also use categories a lot, because that way i can organize all the content from various suppliers in a logical way.
The problem
After using "window / workspace / select layout " to restore the 2 screen workspace, i lost all of my categories, even the build in "Default categories" is gone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did this verious times before without anny problems. But now disaster landed.
Does any one know how i can restore this categories , or where Daz studio stores the categories ???

What OS are you using, I am assuming Windows? Is there a little triangle opposite the name Categories, and on opposite Porducts?
It looks like the CMS (Content Management Service) may have stopped running, check to see if it is a running Process in the Task manager, if not, go to tart > All Porgrams > DAZ 3D, and start it from there.
Thank you,
it was indeed the content management service. restarted the computer to make shure the situation that stopped the service from working was reset also.
But is there a way to backup the categories ? I do a regulair backup of the library folder, but i dont think that is enaugh for a full restore.
AdamR001 has a tutorial on backing up the Categories database.
I'll post a link here for you in a mo.
EDIT:
I had given Adam an extr '0' in his username, but here it is anyway. Read through the thread and it will tell you what to backup:

In DS4.5 you can Export User Data to save your custom categories in the same format as the metadata, in your content folders.
