It isn't the case-senistivity issue again? The Application Support is in the right user's profile?
I don't see any Postgre processes in activity monitor when I start/run DS or DIM.
It wouldn't think it's related to case sensitivity, the case sensitivity issue came about because of how I re-formatted the external SSL and was resolved when I re-formatted again and disabled the case sensitivity. I haven't formatted the internal SSL where the Application Support + Application files live (ever).
I'm the only user on this computer.
I don't know why the same cms folder exists in 'Application Support' under my username's 'Library' and under the Mac HD Library. Maybe that's just normal? It seems that Totte has two versions of the cms folder like I do.
Somewhere, something isn't pointing at what it's supposed to though.
I don't use a MAC but I did notice this.
"At present this tab, within Daz Studio Preferences, says the ContentCluster directory path is 'None' and the Port is 1024."
Whereas here it is looking at "Port" : 17237".
I don't know if that is the problem and changing 1024 to 17237 might be the answer.
I think older versions of studio put it under /Library but later under ~(the user)/Library
I know this is simple, I just can't figure out what it is.
Hi Fishtales,
I suspect that this wrong path+port for ContentCluster in Daz Studio Preferences is a symptom of the problem rather than the problem itself.
It looks like the information in CMS Settings (tab in 'preferences') populates from the file cmscfg.json, that Totte indentified. My file has the correct path+port information but Daz Studio doesn't seem to look for/at the file at all.
There is something that first tells Daz Studio to look in this folder for CMS data but, as mine doesn't look, it doesn't find that info and then it also has 'None' for the path and the wrong port in the preferences tab as an additional consequence.
I'm guessing that it won't allow me to manually change and apply these settings for the same reason. It cannot see the cmscfg.json config file that it needs to write the change to. Some other path is missing/broken, where it should direct it to the folder where the CMS data and in turn the cmscfg.json file is stored.
I think the problem must be further back in the process because if it could see the file then it should allow me to save the change.
But if it could see the file then the correct information is already in there anyway.
It's making my head spin.
That would explain why there are two versions of it.
I'm sure it's something easy to fix too but it's really hard to find
I'm going round in circles looking for files that might tell Daz Studio where to look for the CMS folder.
I got an idea while trying to sleep ast night....
I see one difference from your setup, when I did check with DIM. I enrtered postgres in the search field and then rightclicked and did show installed files.
DIM says that it installed a config file in /Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms cmscfg.json, which looks likw this:
{
"PgBin": "/Applications/DAZ 3D/PostgreSQL CMS/bin"
}
The postgres runtime files are installed there /Applications/DAZ 3D/PostgreSQL CMS
then the file /Users/xxxx/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms there is another cmscfg.json, which contains:
{
"Port" : 17237,
"DatabaseClusterPath" : "/Users/totte/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms"
}
So it looks like DS first looks at the first one to determine where the actual runtime is installed, launches it and then use the second cfgfile to establish the conenction, at least here (I checked one of the monsters too to be sure, I ssh:ed to it, and it looks the same, and I also ran a RemoteAccess to check in DIM, same thing.
So, try to do that change see above for the cfg file in /Library/....
You're definitely onto something here! This looks like it's starting to fix a few things.
Daz Studio still shows the 'A valid PostgreSQL connection could not be established' error and Smart Content is still empty...
But once Daz Studio has opened it now shows the 'Start CMS' button at the bottom left, in the pane where the smart content would normally be. This has not been showing at all since the problem started. Clicking on it does not make the CMS start though, a timer spins for a few seconds but nothing seems to happen.
In this drop down menu too, Start CMS / Stop CMS has been greyed-out for a few days, but now it's selectable. Again, it doesn't seem to do anything though.
Within Daz Studio > Preferences > CMS Content (tab), it now shows the correct path for the ContentCluster and the correct port, so it must now be able to see the cmscfg.json config file in /Users/xxxx/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms
But there must be something else wrong too as it's still failing to establish a connection to PostgreSQL.
I think you've got it my friend !!!
After I did your last step, I remembered that I had re-imported the entire folder /Users/...../Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D
So I did the step below again, to change the permissions.
----- do: cd <and drag the cms folder to terminal to get the correct path>
do: (set user only access): sudo chmod -R 700 ContentCluster/ -----
Then when I opened Daz Studio, my CMS started automatically and my Smart window was full of lovely content!
It seems to all be working, everything I have tested so far is working anyway. I will have a proper play later to make sure but I'm optimistic.
I guess the permissions changed when I copied and replaced the folder but I don't know how that config file came to be pointing to the wrong place.
Thank you so much, I'm very grateful for your help. Thank you for giving your time to help me with this problem. You're a legend my friend.
You're welcome, if you have more DAZ Studio OS X issues, just hollar ;-)
