Trying to DSON Wooden Bleachers into Poser 2014 [SOLVED]

Consumer573Consumer573 Posts: 282

Wooden Bleachers is a specific example. https://www.daz3d.com/wooden-bleachers It is a prop that says it comes with a DSON core installer. There are others (Saloon, etc).

System: Win 7, 64 bit.

I have run the DSON exe and directedd it to put its files where my Poser.exe resides.

I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qYh4JcEPhw  "How to Install DSON and Load Genesis 2 Into Poser "

I have a separate directory for Daz specific content under Public Documents, as the  YouTube video above suggests.

Say:  C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DazDsonContent\RuntimeDazDSON\Runtime

With Daz files they usually come:  Content\Runtime, with several files at the  same  level as Content, typically dsx. There are also typically files at the same level as 'Runtime', but in Poser I don't want a 'Content' folder above my Runtime so right now I am ignoring the dsx files that come at the same level as 'Content'.

I can see the RuntimeDazDSON runtime directory in Poser, but all the files have (0) for number of items in it.

What am I doing wrong?

(1) Even though it says it has a DSON intaller, does 'bleachers' have a chance of working in Poser?  It says it is for Daz 4.9; I am confused because it also says it has the DSON installer which I thought was only for use with Poser. I thought this might work because they are objects and props, though I was expecting possible difficulties with textures and shaders.

(2) Is there something I need to run every time I add something to get Poser to see the Content?

(3) Do I need the dsx files at the same level as 'Content'

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

To see it directly from the Poser Library, you either need to create Poser Companion Files or export it as a Poser prop, both of which need to be done within Studio.

Try this free script by the Late, Great Ralf Sesseler, which will allow you to load it directly from Poser.  If it loads you should then be able to save it to the Poser Library.  Note that the DAZ content directory does need to be added to the Poser Library so Poser can locate the textures...

    NOT SUCCESSFUL YET.

    Ah, Ralf.

First, thank you for your efforts, Wandw. I'm trying. I didn't want to write anything until I gave it my best shot.

I got it (Ralf's Sccript)  working and it seems to translate duf and dsf, one directory at a time when I find the  individual files.  I now have  PNG thumbnails and it looks like I have textures. None of these are seen by POSER or are in a Poser Runtime Tree.

It puts nominal *.cr2 files in place called Runtime\auto_adapted\content_files. I say 'nominal' beause they are uniformly 1kb in size and when I look at them it's just a header with no other information.

    Any thoughts?

    Ok, tried it with P11pro

It loaded fine (the full 3felight scene) for me. Of course,  materials need to be adjusted. Maybe DSON is not correctly installed on your system. Or something is wrong with the install of the bleachers. Or the DSON version itself has flaws. Truth be told, I'm using an older DSON version, as some versions could give weird results sometimes with the genesis figure (some deformation in the shins IIRC). Also, content is installed manually on my system (I don't us DIM, connect or any other Content Mangler System :) ), so that may also have helped in a succesfull import.....

A  DSON core instasller doesn't mean it is poser compatible; DSON refers to the file format used by the present version (I think as off DS4.5). The DSON plug-in for Poser needs a Poser companion file. D3D's script more or less 'substitutes' for that by getting the basic info from the DS file for the Poser DSON plug-in

The cr2 file you mentioned is generated by the DSON plug-in, and basically contains the references to the data needed to create the scene, for instance a reference the the .obj file that is also generated by the DSOn plug-in..... most likely in the 'data' subfolder ot that 'auto_adapted'folder (if all works as it should...)

When you run the DSON script in Poser, do you get the 'Import DSON file'  load window? You can browse to your DS folder from there and select the .duf file.....

Thanks Glaseye. I really want to get this to  work. I'd about given up. What you show is importatnt to me.  Proof it CAN work.

I'm not at my Poser computer right now, but I'll let you know my progress.  I used the most recent version of DSON, and I was able to see the dufs as in your example. But the CR2s generated were basically empty.

What is the file structure for your DAZ Bleacher zips?  I mean after you put them on your directory?  In your screen capture I don't see a Runtime. I see: Content\DS4\Props\Predatron\WoodenBleachers\3Delight\Scenes\

Did you change anything?  I did and maybe that's all or a part of my problem.

    My directory is  C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DazDsonContent\RuntimeDazDSON\Runtime\Props\Predatron,

with everything up to "RuntimeDazDSON" being created by me.

In the Daz zip the next directory would be 'Content':, (Content\Props\Predatron\WoodenBleachers\3Delight\Scenes\ )

but Poser didn't see anything for me to click on when I did that, so I moved  the 'Runtime' folder to the same level as the 'Content' folder.  Do I run DSON before I look at thee Poser Library or after? I don't have a Content\DS4 part of the path like you do.

    2 quick questions.

Do you use DIM or Connect to install your content?

Are you familiair with manual install?

  • jestmartjestmart Posts: 4,449

Do not extract the "Content" folder only the contents of it.

Glaseye, you were the key BECAUSE you showed me it COULD work.  But I had to think.....

... And then, in the middle of the night it hit me. It was so simple. It  was what I said above on July 17....

I went back and unzipped the files. This time I did not change their directory line-up to get Runtime where I wanted it. Then when I went to the Poser Library I added the Directory "Content" which had Runtime under it, but I left the Content folder and everythin in it alone.

I went to Ralf's 3D app and translated the files down at the end of the 3Delight Tree.

And it seems to have worked!  I still haven't found where it put the *.cr2 files, but THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thanks to all of you. Otherwise I would not have known abobut Ralf's free script, and that I COULD get Daz prop files into Poser 2014!

Good to hear you've succeeded.... (and a good/funny way of showing it ..... cheeky )

Don't move those .cr2 files; they are created by the DSOn plugin for the conversion. Once you've imported a prop in poser (and maybe adjusted the materials....) you may want to save that prop as a - well - poser prop in the props folder, or save as a poser scene to be merged in a different scene later...

Did you check if the wind morph on the flags function?

    Yep!  The windmorph works, too.

And now I understand Wandw's caution, above. "Note that the DAZ content directory does need to be added to the Poser Library so Poser can locate the textures..." And Jestmart's comment.

This opens up a whole new world of new Daz prop possibilities that until recently seem to have been cut-off.
