Less 'dense' figures

Hi all,
Daz 4.9
Is it possible to reduce a figure's polygon count to make it less dense? For example, making up a crowd scene with low poly versions of particular characters.
Thanks in advance,
G

Using lower resolution versions of the textures will probably do more to lightening the load than reducing the polygon count, though for iray turning the Render SubD down (or off) will help. Beyond that you'd be looking at Decimator, although depending on the crow instancing may also help.
Thank you Richard, that's really helpful. Can I trouble you to explain what you mean by 'instancing'.
Thanks in advance,
G
An instance is a second ... instance is actually a good word, it's a live copy of the original so it has very little impact on memory use. The downside is that the only things you can chnage about an isntance are their top-level properties (overall position and scale) - the materials are exactly the same, the morphs are exactly the same, and for a figure the pose is exactly the same. You can create instances from the Create menu, or using a couple of different store scripts that help with placement and organisation.
Thank you. I shall investigate further.

Might want to look into this...if reducing the size of your scene's memory footprint.

I have a scene going with 10 characters and a fairly big set. It was stuttering so I went with this and the navigation and rendering time is sliced to a 1/4 of what it was.
48 mins for a decent image is now 10 mins for the same stage of rendering.
Now you're talking! I think I will get scene optimizer and give it a try as some of my scenes can get quite heavy.
Thanks avxp
