Install Manager placing the product ZIP and DSX files into My DAZ 3D Library but not unpacking them.

[This thread was originally named installed Fit Control for Genesis 3 Male(s) and the scripts seem to be Orphaned Reference, but I have now renamed it to be more accurate to what's actually going on.]

Okay, a couple days ago I bought Fit Control for Genesis 3 Male(s) and let the Daz Install app install it.  Today I went to use fit control on a character and clothes and I could not find the script anywhere in the system.  It does not appear when I go to DAZ Studio Formats > Scripts, or anywhere else that I can drill down to a Scripts folder in Content Library.  Finally in exasperation I pluigged "fit" into the Search field and the Fit Control Genesis 3 stuff showed up... each of the asset icons showing an empty-picture-frame having an exclamation-point triangle in it, with another exclamation-point triangle on the lower left of the asset icon.  It looks as if the product didn't install right.  oO

What am I doing wrong?  Oo

edit: Actually, it looks like assets from the recently installed Lee 6 Starter Bundle are also orphaned.

edit2: In fact, it looks like nothing I purchased form June 29th onwards got installed right.  I see a bunch of ZIP and DSX files sitting in the root of my My DAZ 3D LIbrary folder, but none of those zips seem to have actually gotten unpacked.

edit3: Yeah, it appears every Daz3D product I bought from June 29 onward has a zip and dsx file with it in there, none of which seem to have been unpacked into te actual runtime folders and related, this is even though I have Install After Download checkboxed in Install Manager.  I have made no changes in any sittings in recent weeks (well other than I just moments ago noticed I'd not checkboxed Poser < 8 in the available programs) so dunno why it stopped doing this.  I assume I can just MANUALLY unpack each of the zips, but what do I do then with the zips and dsx files afterwards?  Delete them?  Move them to another folder?

  • I guess I need to bump this thread, rather than adding yet another Edit#: Blachblah onto the oringal post .... so people will actually notice it has new info in it.

The zips should not usually go into the content directory anyway. What are you settings in the Downloads and Installation tabs of DIM's preferences - the gear icon at top-right of the main window?

Downloads is set to E:/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library and Installation is set to Install to Selected Path and E:/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library

I had to move the files to a new, second drive because the C: drive was running out of space, but everything seemed to be working fine after that.  Not sure what changed more recently because I don't tihnk it was anything I touched.  oO

You've got the downloads going to your My Daz 3D Library, and your installation tab is still set to use the Recommended path rather than the one you added.

It's set to the OLD path?  oO  (Goes to the old path....) Oh...  THERE they are.  Oo

Okay, changed the downloads dir to drive e.  I'm guessing I can now MOVE the dirs from the unwittingly recreated, OLD My DAZ 3D Library dir into the new My DAZ 3D Library folder on drive E.... but what should be done about all those zip and dsx files in there?  oO

And what should be done about InstallManagerFileRegister.json that now exist in both places?  One of those is 158 KB and the other is 8 KB.

The zips and .dsx files in the "My Daz 3D Library" folder (NOT in subfolders) can be moved to your new downloads location.

Since you have the zips, you may want to uninstall weith DIM and reinstall in the correct location, so that if a product is updated DIM won't try to install the update in the old location.  (The alternative is to manually edit the ManifestFiles folder where DIM stores info on where each product was installed.)

Once DIM has everything installed in the right place, if you go to Settings > Installation and right-click on each install path and choose "Fix Installed File Registry" DIM will correct the json files.

By "my new downloads location," do you mean the destination specified in Settings > Downloads?  Right now that is set to E:/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library, which is where all those zip and dsx files I was talking about are now.  The arrival of these things there has been confusing me because I'd never seen that sort of thing show up in there before. If the Download To: destination should have been set to something else, I'm not sure what it might have been set to by default when I originally installed DS years ago.  Since I was very close to running out of space on drive C: I had moved the entire My DAZ 3D Library folder over to the new drive, and then went in and configired DS to go to the NEW path for everything and removed the OLD path, and also did the same for the DIM.... or so I thought.  Did I set that bit wrong?  oO  What sort of path would that one have been set to by default back when all of this was originally installed, back when all of this was pointing to somewhere in C: drive?

Anyway, there was a LOT of stuff I'd installed via DIM before I physically moved all DS content to the E: drive, I really DO hope I don't have to uninstall ALL of that content via DIM and then let it reinstall it ALL just so it doesn't spontaneously try to shunt updated versions of one of THOSE back to the now-totally-mothballed (and for a few weeks at least, totally deleted) OLD directoy for My DAZ 3D Library. OO

In the Installation tab of DIM's preferecnes there is an option to Install to Selected Path, instead of Install to Respective Installed paths - that will put updates on your new drive, though you may get issues if a file from the original install was actually removed by the update instead of simply being overwritten.

  • So, basically, like I have in this screengrab?

Okay, additional complications have come up.  I discovered that the zips that DIM downloads originally would go into a dedicated folder elsewhere on my C: drive, so I created a new path on E: drive for that and moved the InstallManager folder from C: to E: there, then adjusted the path settings in DIM accordingly.

Basically, I created a new folder in E: with the path E:\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\ and then moved the old \InstallManager\ folder from C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\  to there, so now the complete path to it is E:\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ and then I went into DIM > settings > Downloads, pointed the Downloads path to there, quit out of DIM, and then moved the recent zip and dsx files from E:\Public Documents\My Daz 3D Library\ to the Downloads folder in E:\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ and went on to other fish to fry.

Today I launched DIM to check something, and discovered DIM now thinks I have NOTHING AT ALL installed.  oO  Do I need to change the Downloads dir path to point to one of the premade subdirs IN the moved InstallManager folder?

I was operating under the theory that because the program, when originally installed, had made that folder and its subdirs in the first place (over on C: drive), that it would now recognize the existence of those subdirs even when the main folder had been moved to a new place and would act on them accordingly, particularly since it looks like it at least used to be placing the ZIPs in one subdir and (additional copies of?) the DSX files in another subdir within the InstallManager folder, so you'd expect it would just go back to doing that again.

Right now I don't see ANY sign of the InstallManagerFileRegister.json file in there, though, which I'd thought I remembered something like that being in there before I moved the InstallManager folder over.  There's still a version of that sitting in E:\Public Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\ though, which presumably I could copy over to somewhere in the new InstallManager folder.

What do I do?  This is freaking nuts. oO

    Download tab ... Dowload To: E:/Public Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/Downloads.

Expand DIM full screen.  In Ready to Install uncheck Install After Download and check Show Details

  • Okay, I set the new path in Settings > Downloads, and I've then brought DIM to full screen and selected the Ready to Install tab, there doesn't seem to be an Install After Download checkbox anywhere, but I did click Show Details, as screengrabbed here,  What do I do next?

You need to tell DIM where the Manifests folder is - C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts\Account.ini and edit the

    OverrideManifestDir=

    to

    OverrideManifestDir=E:/Public Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/ManifestFiles

  • Okay, that sorted it.  TYTY,
