Correct way to apply texture on models made in blender

I wanted to render both things made in daz and blender together. If i export character from daz to blender it will have errors and if i do oppost with texture applied on models i make in blender it will give errors again. So i think best is if i make models in blender and apply texture in daz. So i tried it and after uv unwraping i was able to apply diffuse but normal texture is not having effect like it does in blender. So i want to know correct way to apply texture on models made in blender in daz.

One thing you can try is inverting the green channel of your normal map in Photoshop or Gimp, then save and reapply to the 'normal' channel in Daz Studio. Normal maps come in different varieties...some made for DirectX, and others made for OpenGL...it's the OpenGL ones that work right with Daz Studio, I believe. And if it doesn't work, inverting the green channel often fixes it.

Here is an example of flipping the green channel using Photoshop, although I usually save them as .jpegs:

Sorry, you can skip the vtf plugin part, and just focus in on the the part that shows how to invert the green channnel.

I can spot a little difference. I can easily spot difference in blender but not here. Maybe i'm doing something wrong. Are their any tutorials of it?

Some things to keep in mind that might help...

-- You would need to render to see the effects of the normal map

-- A raking light from any direction other than straight on will help you see the normal map. If the Auto Headlamp is on (the light that shines straight from your camera view) it might be interfering with noticing the effects of the normal map...you could turn it off in Render Settings pane --> General --> Auto Headlamp --> Never.

-- If you saved the edited normal map over itself, Daz Studio doesn't seem to automatically refresh the image internally...I find that switching to Smooth Shaded view mode, then back to Iray will help it refresh so you can see the effects. Also quitting and restarting Studio will help it recognize the new normal map if all else fails.

  • It finally worked..thanks.

Things i changed/discovered....turned off headlamp...light only had effect when i used iray lights...daz was using cpu instead of gpu so i changed it...i used different method of uv unwrapping this time..and i also used your setting for exporting and importing and after using inverted green map normal..this time it finally worked. I think i'm gonna cry lol
