No Smart Content

Hey all,
I'm one of those unlucky souls with no smart content visible.

I am able to go to DAZ3D>STUDIO>MY LIBRARY and I see a bunch of stuff that I presume ought to be previewed in the Smart Content pane. So there is hope :).

So the question is: how do I get to see the props, figures, etc. in the smart content window (I ONLY have the stuff the came with the free download of DAZ 4.5. Yes, I have looked thru the forum to find similar threads in hopes of solving the issue on my own and it appears the culprit is something called the Content Management System (perhaps) not working correctly.

I have followed the kind advice as to how to solve this problem and discovered that I don't have this CMS at all. It is not located in my files at all (it certainly is not running in my tasks). I go to Programs>DAZStudio4 but I do not see the CMS. I go to task manager>services and I do not see DAZ CMS at all.

I downloaded DAZ 4.5 for PC
and Genesis Starter Essentials
and nothing else. Wouldn't the CMS be in one of those downloads?

MY OS is Windows 7, 64 bit (but I am running the 32 bit version of DAZ as the 64 bit version kept crashing and giving me a fatal error message).

Thanks for any advice or help and have a nice weekend y'all.
DG

    Hey.
I'm a beginner here, so dont trust anything i say ;)

I dont think what you want is possible. I wanted that too, but gave up after awhile.

    Here's how i sort:

    1. Locate what you want on the right side panel.
    2. Right click on the folder with the content you want and click on "Dublicate Category -> This only Or This and subcategories."
    3. In the "Select a Parent Category" window that pops up. Right click on "Categories" and create new.
    4. Name it to hair, vehicle or whatever you want to sort.

On the Content Libary on the right side. Open "Categories".
This is where they will appear. So little bit easier to find your favorites.

Or you could "tag" some of your stuff with keywords. But thats just a big pain in your rear bumper.

But be aware, when Daz crashes it will usually delete some of your favorites...

    About the left side:
I think only some Genesis/V5/M5 etc content will appear there.

With DS closed, go to "Start > Programs > DAZ 3D > DAZ Content Management Service" and click the link to start the service, and see if it shows as running under services, then start DS, go to the Content Library pane, and see if there's anything under Products or Categories (even empty folders) -- if there is, then open the options menu (the rectangle with horizontal lines in the upper corner of the Content Library pane), Content DB Maintenance > Re-Import Metadata.

I don't suppose you recall what the error was? Daz Studio really thrives most when you have the memory to use it, and sadly the 32-bit version will be a little limited in that regard. If your system is 64-bit capable, it's recommended you use the 64-bit version to avoid headaches in the future. It might be a problem that someone here has already discovered how to fix.

I want to thank everyone for their help, tips and advice!

I think in my attempts at uninstalling 4.0, installing 4.5 and finding that it crashed all the time, uninstalling it, re-installing it to see if that made a difference (it didn't), uninstalling that and installing the 32 bit version, I somehow lost or corrupted the CMS folder. I spent a good amount of time browsing other threads about this same problem before I came crawling to you guys, lol, and so I had already come across, and attempted what fixmypcmike's advised me to do in this thread. But I figure, what the heck, let's try it again :). Again, I could not find this CMS folder everyone said was plainly there. I was looking for it in the 32bit version (not there) but I discovered it in the 64 bit version (which I thought I had deleted completely...go figure). But when I clicked on the link to get the service going, it said it could not activate due to a missing dll...okay. It advised me to re-download the program.

I re-downloaded the 64 bit version of DAZ (and this time when the CMS wizard popped up, I checked the box where it asks if you wanted to install it manually). Success. With the CMS downloaded properly, I did what fixmypcmike advised. Success. Now I see info and images in my Smart Content window. Thanks guys.

One thing I found very confusing is that the workspace that comes up when you download DAZ is the "full service beta" but the youtube videos always showed a different workspace which I assumed was only for an older version of DAZ. The full service beta workspace does not have that little Display Active Pane Options button up in the right hand corner, which so many people were referring to. As I'm still in the exploration and non-commital stage, I went to window>workspace, and discovered I could change my workspace to look like it does in all the videos the workspace is entitled Hollywood BLVD). And so I was able to see the button that would allow me to re-import the metadata.

Now I have to see if the 64bit version will crash again every time I attempt to pose the genesis character. So far it hasn't (fingers crossed, knocking on wood).

    Thanks
    DL
