Posing hands to items difficult is there a better way?

For example I am setting up a scene with V8 on horse 2. I am having an awful time trying to get the bridle reins into V8 hands. The reins don't seem to bend enough or if I try to move the reins over the whole bridle comes with it. Is there a better way that I can do this to make things faster and easier?

Use the active pose tool, pin the bridle with a pin on each side of the mouth (activate the pins with the tool settings pane, and set the pinning option to 'pin at both' for max rigidity), then still using active pose tool you should be able to drag the reins without affecting the pinned part. I use this method for similar things like posing sickleyield ropes and shackles. Pin one end, drag the other where I want it. Or pin both ends, drag the middle where I want it. Or pin the middle...
One note of caution, SOMETIMES the active pose tool will seem to not recognize its pins. If this happens just stop moving the part, cntrl-z to get back to the unmoved position, then try again. Usually just letting go, backing out and trying again the pins will be recognized and work as theyre supposed to. I notice this mostly on G2 figures.
Thank you, I will give this a try. I didn't know about pins so I'm going to do this right now. This should make things much easier. Thanks!!
Don't be discouraged if you can't quite get what you want or if it takes a lot of work. Hand posing is usually tricky / difficult / frustrating.
I recommend adding the tool settings pane to your workspace as you will use it often when using the active pose tool.
A few things worth knowing: the active pose tool pins (which are red) are only recognized by the active pose tool. So switching to another tool, universal, rotate, translate, etc will act as if no pins are present, those tools all only recognize universal pins, which act differently than active pose, they are less forgiving, more prone to moving, however there are instances when only the universal tool will work. Like rotating hips without moving the feet. Active pose cannot do it as there is no 'rotate', and dragging body parts attached to the hips (thighs) will only get you so far. The universal tool has purple pins that are activated right in the viewport by rclicking the universal tool gizmo (or hte gizmo top left in teh viewport with the red yellow and blue rings.
IMHO the active pose tools work really well (I use it far more than universal, or any other pose method really, but I use them all as they do all have their things they do best) especially on G3 figures. I can for ex pin a hand in place using 'pin at both' and then grab the tips of each finger/thumb and manually drag them into position without the hand moving. If I need more bend in a finger I might hit the bend pose dial (hand>pose controls) to get close to the amount of bend I want and then finishthe pose by grabbing the finger tip and then dragging into place.
Also, active pose pins persist through saves, which I find very handy. Although every time you reopen the file the pins will revert to pin at origin (I think) so you will have to go in and switch to pin at both for more rigid pinning. But sometimes pin at end or pin at origin work better for what youre trying to achieve. Universal tool pins are not persistent thru saves.
It's working gederi. Wish I had known about it. There are so many tips and tricks I tend to skip over some important things.
Thank you very much gederix for all of this helpful info. I was able to drag the reins but could not find the pins. It still worked though and the bridle portion stayed put. I am not satisfied with the position of the reins and part of the problem is they are very long and seems the only way to shorten them is to use the scale tool. They need more adjusting. When I open Daz Studio tomorrow I'll see if I can find the pins. When I right click using the active pose tool all I see is parent info so I must be looking in the wrong place. Thank you too fastbike yes it is a bit frustrating working with the hands even with applied hand poses.
I found the pins! That will make things much better, just wanted to let you know I found them. Thanks gederix!
