Daz Fbx Export to Maya and Back to Daz Problem.

Hi All,

I'm a new Daz user trying to learn more about Daz's pipeline with other Software packages.

Test 1: DAZ -> MAYA -> DAZ

Exported Genesis Character as FBX. (genesis.fbx)
Imported into MAYA 2013, seems to be OK. Bones and Textures came in fine.
Exported same Maya scene, (did not make modifications to imported fbx from Daz). (genesisFromMaya.fbx)
Imported genesisFromMaya.fbx into Daz.

Result:

Character is not centered in scene, the bounding box is at the correct location but the character is floating above the bounding box.

I have attached 2 screen shots.

Thanks for any help

According to the Daz studio info page this should be possible

    FBX Import
FBX files generated by DAZ Studio 4.5 can now be re-imported in FBX format, allowing you to export a figure to certain 3rd party applications for texturing or animation purposes and then import that figure back into DAZ Studio

However I've never gotten it to work and I always encounter problems like this
I know that the source of it isn't with my FBX files either because they open perfectly in Carrara or 3ds max.
A while back I did put in a support ticket about it and was told that FBX re-import is still in Beta so I don't know if their is even a solution to your problem. You could try putting in a support ticket now mybe things have changed.

This is because Maya removes joint information. We are looking at a method to rebuild the missing information but no guarantee as to when or even if we can do this.

Ok its a year later, can we now export to Maya. I wont be going back to Daz (no reason to) I want to be able to export to Maya or a game engine almost as easy as you allow into iclone (lol, just kidding) Not sure why its that easy into iclone, thats for another topic. Is there a detailed method on this?
    thanks in advance

It does export to Maya using FBX, it has for quite some time. The issue listed in the bug is the round trip, and the issue with the round trip is Maya is striping joint information.
