I went through my copy of Truform's yacht and meticulously placed labelled cameras in every single room in the full preload. One day I'll get around to doing lights, too.... probably with GHost Lights 2. Also asked him about crew quarters (which is the big thing his yacht lacks) and he admitted he'd replaced them with a couple more staterooms. It's been interesting; I've been looking at real mega yachts as a result of getting his (I may do a story something at some point with his, although I'll have to improvise crew quarters somehow....) and in some ways his is even more luxurious than the real things. More lounges, anyhow. Less space for boats and helicoptor parking though.

This might be worth a look if you want a nice sweater, shirt, or a short skirt. The New Semester Outfit is $5.93 (Daz Original) without having to buy anything. Here's a quickie to give you an idea of the materials.

In the male sale (which tells me G8 male is coming very shortly, you don't do 70% offs on a whim) I picked up Warrior Monk,  Wildenlander Watch HD,  Knight Eisenfaust,  Nordic Warrior,  Genesis 2 Legacies for Genesis 3 Male,  Wise Sensei (G3M),  Cyber Fit Outfit (just for fun!)  and a couple characters to get 10 products and 70% off. Again, without the ability to use morphs from Gen3 onto Gen8, I'm sticking with Gen3 and 70% off the clothes is fantastic. Did you folks buy anything?

I wasn't going to... I managed to put things in the cart and clear it several times... but when I discoverd some of DarwinsMishap(s)' guys at 70% off to start, I put them in the cart to see if they would discount further. And they did. I ended up with 12 items in the cart, 3 at 82% off, (as reported by the Daz Deals plugin.) at an average price of $4.75 each... Xenia Hair, Kenjutsu Sword, Toruun for Genesis 3 Male, Khai for Lee 7, MST Genesis 3 Male Skin Merchant Resource, DA Cyber Sword and Poses for Genesis 3 Male(s), Raw Poses for Genesis 3 Male and Michael 7, Abel for Genesis 3 Male, Jimmy Flip Hair for Genesis 3 Male(s), George Hair Set, 200 Plus - Head & Face Morphs for Genesis 3 Male(s), and Fashion Army Outfit for Genesis 3 Male(s).

The cat close up looks really good! I may have to get this combo.

Sure were a lot of posts to this thread today. I come back and there was 35 in far less than a day.

Although I'm not planning to get either yacht, very helpful to see the detailed comparison of the two, so thanks for the time you committed to do so. It's somewhat like buying a house - one might offer 85-90% of what you want, and then you have to decide if you can live with the 10-5% you don't like. I will note that in the real world there might be a dozen different yacht designs in the harbor, so having two, even if only used for exterior views, could be helpful.

I haven't yet, but I can do a few today just so you can get an idea.

here's a couple of examples of the Tactical Pants from Smay:

    https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/267971/

    https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/166321

Both on largish characters. I'm just trying to find the image I did of them on G3F so you can see they fit the females well too.

I was able to pick up Raoul for Ivan 7, Really Cool Handgun and Poses for G3M, (the name of that product always makes me smile), and Tactical Pants for G3M

Now I already had a copy of Tactical Pants as I did some promos with them, but I liked them so much, that I went ahead and bought them in the sale to show support...and also because if I ever lose my promo files, I'll still have those pants. LOL. They are awesome. And they look quite good on G3F also. I've also used them on big George too, with no problems, even with his extreme size. They're definitely worth it.

Raoul - well how can anyone resist him?? he's amazing! Ivan rapidly became one of my fave G3 males - he's wonderful. And Raoul, by the brilliant Saiyoness, is incredible. I had a quick play with him last night - can't show it as I was promoing lights that havne't been released yet - but I will. The only disappointment with him is that I was hoping for normal maps, but he doesn't come with any. I did use Ivan's "veiny" normal map on his torso tho.

As for Really Cool Handgun - I always giggle at that name LOL. And I can't resist guns and poses for either the males or the females, so that was a no brainer.

I REALLY wanted to get a few more, to make it to the 10 items at 70%..particularly a Luthbel or two....but didn't have quite enough in the account. LOL. That was definitely one of the better sales DAz has had recently...although I kinda was peeved a bit at the discounts going from 3 items then jumping to 10

I'm tempted by Raul. He's in my wishlist. But those big thick chest hairs that look painted on turn me off. I can't decide.... I wish you could post your render. Do you have any that you can reveal?

And thanks for the tactical pants recommendation. They look good. I like Smay stuff.

I'm looking at this and thinking "oh that looks nice, a nice contemporary outfit that i can use shaders on, I like that skirt" and thought I should get that.

Then went to the link and realized I already own it. LOL. I don't even remember buying it!

I picked up 7 men's items at 70 percent off plus the spaceship from today's sale. found there were quite a few items not in the listed sale and got them at reduced cost. I can always use men's garments for gen 3 male and I also picked up a hair or two.

I appreciate all the reviews in this thread.  I think they are responsible for me buying many more products than passing on products.  As a new user of Daz, I appreciate knowing ahead of time what may or may not be frustrating about a particular product - especially knowing ahead of time that I may have trouble moving cameras around in specific places in a product.  Then I know what to expect and can decide whether the good outweighs the negative, and that really depends on the use I intend to make of a particular product.

Thanks to all those who take the time to post detailed reviews and hints, much appreciated.

Raoul for Ivan 7 - he has a HD version and a normal version. Skins are plain like this or there are bloody/beatup versions too. @Barbult, the white hairs on the chest can look a bit odd to me, but you could take the texture into photoshop and darken those ones I think. Let me know if you need more pics of him.

Another i3 product I got recently was the i13 Dental Office Interior. The set looks like a classic dental exam room, although it's a little odd in that it appears to be a combo of the examination equipment, office (desk and filing cabinet in one corner) and waiting room (row of chairs along one wall). The combo works OK from setting up scenes as you can position cameras to focus on the area of interest.  Lots of details scattered throughout that give you the feel of a dental office. I decided this was a good setting for a little fun, so I used Toon Generations 2 figures.

"Trust me! It will only hurt for a second."

With the i13 Dental Bundle you also get i13 Dental Office Poses. I used these to get the patient positioned and to put the dentist and her assistant in the right spots. There are male and female go to and use anywhere poses, as well as upper and lower body poses. The M/F poses are not identical - more seem to put the male in the "dentist" role - but I found you can apply M to F and vice versa with usually good results. The bundle also comes with i13 Scrubs for the Genesis 3 Female(s). In the render the dentist is wearing these while her assistant is wearing Doctor's Coat and Suit for Genesis 2 Male(s)

One disappointment is that the dental chair and accessories and the x-ray machine (mounted on the wall) are totally non-functional. As far as I can tell, there are no controls to move any components. In the geometry tool, you can see the chair mesh is all one group. You probably could rig the chair but it would take quite an effort to split out all the pieces and add bones. There is a set of hand tool props and hand poses, and the patient is reclining, so you can create an action scene but you are stuck with the chair setup as it comes.  Even with this constraint, the product has enough functionality and detail to make it worthwhile.

Retro Vignette is on 40% off from mely3D's catalogue, or 50% if you buy ANY new release (which includes PC new releases). Such a groovy little set! There are two preloads included, and both include a camera that loads when the set loads. You're better off loading one of the preloads and then moving stuff around if you want, as those walls are actually "retro deco" pieces. 4 of those round lumps in one square, if you can picture it. The "retro wall" is the roof, walls and floor and is just a plain colour - the walls are BEHIND those retro deco pieces. In Surfaces, the 'retro wall' has floor, ceiling, wall 1, wall 2. So you can make them disappear in Cutout Opacity if you need to. The room is a 3 sided room - walls on three sides only, with the front (facing the camera)  no wall. The 'retro deco' pieces load in groups in the preload. You can just click the eye next to a group in Scene and a whole row disappears, which is great because I would go insane having to do each individual piece. LOL.

The lamps are all one surface in Surfaces, which is a bit of a pain. They load with emmissives so the base bit glows like it is turned on. You can change the Base Colour if you wish - it will colour the lamp shade and the hanging steel bit. The emmissive bottom stays the same. So that's not too bad. Plus you can always make your own textures for it - if it's for your own use, you could just load the texture map in Photoshop, and then select the orange circle and change it to a different colour. Make a copy of course, so it doens't override the original. For sale, well if you make textures for sale, you know what you're doing LOL.

There are props for everything too. Each prop loads on its own and in zero position. Including the square retro deco pieces for the wall, so you can make your own configuration if you wanted. The "room" itself is just a plain base colour - no textures. But because it has walls, roof and floor surfaces, you can put your own shaders on it if you wish. With the deco pieces on the wall loaded, you won't see the walls tho, just the floor and ceiling. There are 5 "retro deco" square pieces - some load standing up that are for the walls, some load flat on the ground as they are for decor for the ground. I am putting a ticket in tho as two of the retro deco pieces that load are just plain blank orange, whereas the icons in props show they have a design on it. So I'll report that to see what the deal is - who knows if anything will be done tho.

All in all tho, I'm quite pleased with this set, particularly at the price. The promos seem to have lights added for the rendering - the lamps do a good job of lighting, but it's still a bit dark.

couple of images - both these are just test renders and as such, stopped VERY EARLY. So ignore the grain. In the second image, I loaded a retro pattern I have on the floor, to simulate carpet or lino, just to see how it went. Please note, the floor is blank and does NOT have that retro design, that is mine.

Please click for larger versions, will open in new window.

Edited to add - I removed the ceiling and walls, and added some lights to brighten it up.

Sci-Fi Interior Construction Kit - another one 40% off in @Mely3D catalogue, or 50% off if you buy a new release (again, PC new releases count for this). This set is FUN. So many pieces! I like kits like this because they're easy to use if you're doing a portrait of a character and just want a small prop/scene behind them. With this, you have doors and walls and roof panels and floor panels, plus a few bits'n'pieces to add to it. Like a greenhouse. LOL. There's no extra materials in it, so it's just what loads with them. Some of the pieces only have one surface/mat zone, which is kind of a shame for certain pieces. The chair in particular is all one surface, which I was a bit bummed out about - because how cool would it have been to be able to make those squares at the back of the chair emmisive! Glowing neon lights on the chair would be cool!!

There are two preloads - 2 iray, and 2 3delight. One preload sets up a corridor with two of the greenhouses which is shown in the main promo. Walls and roof panels are dead easy to make invisible or delete to get light and cameras in. The other preload loads a big empty room. Heaps of single props. Plus there is a load of the table and chairs around it - whew, that makes it easy. :) The terminal has more surfaces so you can easily change the screen on it to whatever you want. There's also the World's Most Uncomfortable Bed LOL. That's all one surface too and it has a sticking out lamp above where the person's head would be. No mattress or pillows - no comfort in the future for you lot! heh.

All in all, definitely a great construction kit for sci fi scenes. I would have quibbled at paying full price for it, with the lack of surfaces on some pieces (I REALLY want to make those squares on the chair light up!) but at the sale price, it's well worth it.

Image: This is the preload of the big empty room. I added the chairs and table which load together as I mentioned (there is also a single chair prop and single table prop to do it all separately). I deleted some of the roof panels and wall panels to get light in - and that big white light above the table..I just selected one of the roof panels and used "bulb 60 watt" from Real Lights for DAZ Studio Iray to make it look like a flurescent light panel and add more light. It's a quick test render so grainy, but just to give you an idea of the set. I used a HDRI for lighting and that's it (other than the Real Lights panel above) Let me know if anyone wants to see more of the set.

edit: cos i found an image in the galleries that uses the set, and it illustrates exactly what I meant about doing portraits and wanting something small and easy to use

If you own this product, (Boyfriend T Shirt Wet and Dry) note Vyktohria's store at Rendo has materials for it on sale at 60% off. (Her entire store is on sale.)

@jakiblue  That set looks really practical, it would be fun if there were more construction sets.

I have many of the typical room wall sets, with the choice of various baseboards or windows. And there were different products such as grunge, wood, wallpaper- and then for the floor, I think there was also stone. Each product for the materials was very different. One was wallpapers, another was the wood(s).  It was a wall with a baseboard, and flooring IIRC.  I can't find those!  Anyone know what I'm talking about? Hate it when my mind goes blank. It's not any of  Macleans (see last paragraph.)  EDIT: There's Collective3D's Base Set, but I don't THINK that was it. Because there's no recommended products (Daz store is usually great about those IMO)

It's not this one from Collective3D, which I also have (but haven't played with it yet.)

Maclean's:  I just typed in room creator and I wonder what material zones this has- with shaders, you might be able to create some really fun buildings.  Room Creator Exteriors   And there's the Room Creator 2.  Anyone ever play with either of these?

Edit- while we're listing these, here's a Diane / Predatron one called  Small Room Kit

    base: https://www.daz3d.com/backdrops-made-easy

expansions: https://www.daz3d.com/backdrops-exp-4-world-of-wood and https://www.daz3d.com/backdrops-exp-1-ancient-stones and https://www.daz3d.com/backdrops-exp-2-eras-of-interiors (there are more)

they are 3delight tho, way before the time of iray

    YESSSSS!!!!!!  Thank you @jakiblue
We still want to suggest products for the 3DL folks too  wink   And those can always be Uber-Based and tested for conversion to Iray?

Edit- btw, the fastest way to find these, go to Content Library>Products and type in the name.

Wall default, 3DL.  (In progress, going to change things up)  WOW these are taking 16 seconds to do! (500 x 500px) I opened both in separate windows then clicked back and forth, I'm not seeing any difference. But now I can tweak the settings. Edit- increased bump of the carpet, reflectivity of wall and baseboardy, etc, not much difference.

And with just Uber Base (Iray)

    Tweaked the bump, reflectivity, etc.

Yes, I have both those, as well as Room Creator Stairs and Balconies. The interior material zones vary by item. For example, a plain wall has a material zone for the entire wall section, the baseboard, and the upper molding. If the section has a door, there's also zones for the door itself plus the frame, molding, door panels, handle, and hinges. Similar for windows, where you get zones for the frame, molding, grid, shade and glass. Some windows have venetian blinds that can open/close.

Props from the exterior set can have very complex material zones. You can add or remove stone/siding/brick/plaster through opacity sliders. There were about 30 zones for a wall section with window, as there are interior and exterior wall zones plus window frames, glass and even curtains  that have morphs to open/close/tie back.

So lots of variety possible, as besides the materials that come with it,  there's lots of material zones for you to apply your own shaders.

One tip on using these products: you may want to use Content Library/Products/R/Room Creator... to access them to be sure you are seeing all the props, materials, and poses. Smart Content puts a lot into lost and found and going to Figures in Content Library may lead you to miss a lot of what's in these products.

I have Backdrops Made Easy and Backdrops Made Easy Windows and Doors. In fact, I just used the picture window option of the latter to create the backdrop for my photoshoot series.

The Girl 7/8 Photo Shoot 03, The Studio, by L'Adair

I won't repeat the how, as it's Secret #5 of this post in the Kitchen, but I've used both of those sets time and again since I first bought them. Here are a couple of early examples: My very first published render, in 3Delight, and this 2015 weekly contest entry, in Iray, where I put two together to create a corner. (The wallpaper is from a stock image, and not part of the set.) For a quick home interior background, these really can't be beat.

I did a screen capture of the two letters. A "Promise" statement complete with typo and a Latin mission statement.

    Huh. That's some Mission Statement!

Translation (summary):  Our mission is to ensure you learn Latin, or worry about this Mission Statement.

Retro Vignette is on 40% off from mely3D's catalogue, or 50% if you buy ANY new release (which includes PC new releases). Such a groovy little set!

That couch that looks like a pair of lips is so funny! Looks like a cute set. Retro chairs are some of the most comfy to sit in- you can really push your back into the backs and it curves BACK. I'm looking at the kitchen set I currently have, and the backs slope forward. Miss those "retro" type chairs.

Talk of "Retro" reminds me of when I got married to Hubby. I was looking for something "vintage"... One shop I went to said they had just the thing...! A dress from the 70s! Not being my first marriage, I already had a wedding dress from the 70s... lol (I finally found a dress that was perfect. A little two piece gauze dress from the late 1800s. I made a camisole and full halfslip for it out of muslin. Now that's what I call vintage!)

LOL i thought it was going to be the Lorem Ipsum but it's different. Be interesting to see what it means.
