Total newbie here--How do you start up DAZ 3D?

edited December 1969 in New Users

Okay, I'm a TOTAL newbie here.

I downloaded DAZ3DIM, but after I activated it, I can't see anything. I have supposedly downloaded Genesis Starter Essentials and Genesis Starter Essentials Poser CF, but there are no applications to click on and activate. The only things in my DAZ 3D folder are DAZ3DIM and Uninstallers.

What am I missing? Am I not doing something?

DIM will install content for DAZ Studio (or Poser) but not the software itself.

First you'll need to order DAZ Studio 4.5 from the store, if you haven't done so yet (it's free): http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-pro/

Then click on the "My Account" link near the upper right corner of the screen (on the DAZ 3D website), then click "My Downloadable Products," you should be able to find the installation file there. Make sure to choose the right one...for me, it's DAZ Studio 4.5.x 64-bit - exe - pc but yours might be different if you're using a Mac and/or a 32-bit operating system.

Download that file and run the installer. Here's more information on the installation process: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/328/

Edited to add: forgot to say, Welcome to the forum! It can be a great resource if (when) you have questions at any stage in the process, now or after you're up and running. :)

Before you start...let me give you some advice that will be very helpful and had it been given to me when I started, I'd have avoided A LOT of frustration I've been facing.

go here: http://www.daz3d.com/utilities-resources/tutorials?dir=asc&order=price and get the Free tutorials with the Daz Studio 4.5 master Banners...Especially the first one, 7 Steps to Great Art now. That introduces the ideas and tells of the pitfalls new users have and made me, at least, feel much better about what I was doing.

I've only gone thru the first 3, but it's grounded the learning process to the basics rather than getting overwhelmed in the many many options available.
