Ringed planet

in Art Studio
Just messing with the IG Iray SFX shaders and props on a primitive sphere. Lots of post work to get a bit of glow on the edges and so on.

Nice work on that planet, so what you gonna name it??
I guess I was influenced by the "Avatar" color palette, har. I should try a "ring of fire" next. There's hundreds of cross-combinations in the special effects set.
A thought: this sort of lightweight SF stuff reminds me of "Cosmic Zoom" and other National Film Board of Canada animations. Watch on-line. (Youtube link)

While I'm at it I may as well plug Arthur C. Clarke's short story "Meeting With Medusa". I'm not sure if it's possible to read that one without subscribing to the on-line version of Playboy. I'm not really wild about their (Playboy's) experiments with their proprietary browser though... they kind of rushed through their OCR scanning and processing.
