Often I refrained from buying products that are explicit offered for POSER. Meanwhile I made the experience, that they often run in DS, too.
But you never can be sure.
What should I consider when I try to find out the compatibility?
DAZ Studio has always been able to use Poser content, and it still can with certain limitations.
Items which use Poser shaders will not work correctly in DAZ Studio, and they could give you problems. Even the ordinary textures used in Poser do not work the same way in DAZ Studio, and will probably need to be 'tweaked' to work correctly in DAZ Studio, bump, displacement and reflection maps don;t work the same way for example.
In DAZ Studio 4, the new weight mapping for Genesis was introduced, and it did not work inside Poser. and Poser had something similar, which does not work in DS4 and later. (DSON now corrects that for Poser users)
The best thing to do, is to go by the description in the store you are buying from. If it says it wont work in DAZ Studio, I would avoid it. To be absolutely certain, you could sned the artist a PM (Personal Message) at the site in question.
Also any item that uses the Poser material room and node based shaders do note that the texturing will not work in DS as DS shaders are completely different.
What usually fails is what Jimmy says, for example shaders.
Another thing is clothes that is not posed as the default figures, but with dropping arms (can be fixed, sometimes by posing the item with a default pose before fitting it.
Then again, some items uses python scripts for moments and effects, they don't work either.
What usually works is skin textures that says Poser 5+ (as they usually only have maps), sometimes you will need to manually apply displacement maps, but then you can save that material as a DS preset for future use.
