Is the a way to add my own 3D character to my Skyrim game, and what programs would I need besides Elder Scrolls Creation kit?

I have seen people fit DAZ clothes to skyrim mesh in 3D studio Max on youtube, if on your own computer not shared with anyone thats ok, you cannot redistribute any DAZ mesh.
I have tried getting simple mesh in using Nifskope and the Creation kit or Blender and had no luck whatsoever, its much easier just to modify the Skyrim mesh and textures, there are a bunch of things you must have right in Nifskope that cause it to fail easily.
